Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in improving production efficiency, quality, and capacity. This hands-on role requires spending 30-50% of the time on the manufacturing floor, working directly with production staff to implement best practices, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement. The Manufacturing Engineer must follow sound project management practices and lead capital equipment projects and support new product introduction projects.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:



Work with production staff to identify best manufacturing practices and continuous improvement projects using lean six sigma methodologies and implement them across all areas of production. Investigate industry best practices and emerging technologies and enhance our manufacturing methods by developing a roadmap and prioritizing initiatives to implement. Prioritize and lead capital and continuous improvement initiatives throughout manufacturing with an active presence (30 to 50 %) on the production floor by engaging relevant production teams. Adopting sound project management tools, initiate, plan and implement new methods and capital projects to enhance capacity and/or contain costs through work process adjustments, equipment, and tooling. Ensure production team is assembling the product accurately as designed. Implement and maintain a strong preventative maintenance program including spare parts inventory. Take the lead on equipment reliability and breakdowns. May develop standard work and provide training to staff on new techniques or manufacturing improvements. When required, provide support to Supply Chain or Engineering in the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, items, or equipment from a manufacturability standpoint. Assist in reducing the occurrence of manufacturing errors. Promote and enhance a safety-first and non-stop quality culture. Support generation of quality alerts, Bill of Material (BOM) audits and identification of root cause and implementation of corrective and preventive actions in line with 8D process. Have a hands-on approach combined with a strategic mindset. Adherence to all company policies, including health and safety protocols. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:



Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, typically Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing. Minimum 5 years of related experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment with integrated power and power conversion products in various stages of prototyping, commercialization and production. Experience working in engineer-to-order, configure-to-order, or custom product manufacturing. Experience in selecting, procuring, and installing capital equipment including overall project management. Strong software skills including CAD/Solidworks, Draftsight, Visio, Microsoft Office and MS Project. Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and other problem-solving techniques. Experience with ISO9001/ISO14001 Environmental and Quality Management Systems. An appreciation and passion for mitigating the environmental impacts of manufacturing (products, processes, packaging, recycling, energy conservation, etc.). Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present ideas clearly to all levels. Strong analytic problem-solving capabilities. Strong relationship building skills with an ability to collaborate with a diverse group of employees. Proven track record in implementing new processes, equipment and tooling. Demonstrates initiative and a passion for achieving results with a sense of ownership and minimal direction. Resourceful, innovative and energetic. Strong collaboration and teamwork skills. Strong project management and organizational skills.

Working Conditions:



Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship. Must be able to travel to international destinations; must possess and maintain a valid passport for international travel. This role is located in an office environment, with regular visits to the manufacturing environment, suppliers and occasionally to other Socomec Group locations.
