The Third Party Relationship team at ATB is growing and evolving. We are excited to introduce several net new roles into the organization to elevate relationships with third parties, improving operational efficiencies throughout the life cycle, and mitigate third party related risk.

As ATB's next Managing Director, Banking and Professional Services, you possess deep knowledge of the end-to-end third party relationship lifecycle (sourcing, contracting, procurement, category management and vendor management), combined with the ability to understand ATB's strategy and translate them into executable goals. As the leader, you are accountable to steer the vision, prioritize efforts, set goals in order to elevate third party partnerships. You will leverage data to drive innovation and partnerships with ATB's leadership team to align ATB's strategic third parties with the enterprise's strategic plan. In addition, you will steer the third party relationship team to identify value opportunities for ATB and ATB clients. You will serve as a champion to deliver on the third party relationship team goals and the implementation of the new third party relationship team support model. This hybrid role can be based out of Calgary or Edmonton.

Technical Accountabilities

Develop and advance ATB's strategic direction by elevating relationships with banking and professional services third parties:

  • Represent the Third Party Relationship (TPR) team as the lead and first point of contact for ATB senior executives on strategic initiatives related to banking and professional services third parties
  • Lead the Banking and Professional Services TPR practice with sought after expertise and capabilities in innovation and process improvement to ensure:
  • timely execution of sourcing and renewals,
  • optimal deal is negotiated,
  • appropriate input into budget and forecast,
  • segmentation of third parties to ensure appropriate governance, and
  • ensuring that ATB's environment, social and governance (ESG) principles are embedded into ATB's TPR practices
  • Ensure the organization is receiving optimal value from banking and professional services third party relationships and drive value creation tracking
  • Shape agenda, manage service levels and risk, and prioritize opportunities with strategic third party relationships
  • Provide vision and inspirational leadership across the TPR team to help support the achievement of the operating plan and strategic goals
Champion the end to end third party relationships lifecycle, focusing on steering the vision, prioritizing efforts and setting goals for the TPR team:
  • Oversee the development and execution of complex negotiation strategies (includes contracts that have an IT component to them or SaaS) using a data-driven approach, and where needed provide support for contract enforcement; engage in thorough deal analysis and recommendations
  • Oversee the development and advancement of third party policies, standards and procedures, provide advice, share knowledge and best practices with respect to third party compliance, risk, financial, and performance management functions
  • Lead and champion the TPR service delivery across capabilities, avoiding duplication or overlap of services/capabilities being performed by multiple teams, provide guidance in determining viable solutions
  • Oversee the building and advancement of ATB's category management strategies, and acts as role model across the organization regarding quality of work and ability to achieve business outcomes
  • Proactively navigate and overcome roadblocks while establishing and maturing the new third party relationship team support model.
People and Relationship Accountabilities

Provide vision and inspirational leadership across the Banking and Professional Services team that exemplifies ATB as an organization:
  • Leads multiple teams with deep expertise across the TPR team and develop senior talent
  • Foster teamwork, collaboration, and opportunity generation internally and with critical third parties
  • Elevate the leadership capabilities and development opportunities of each of your direct and indirect reports, adjusting delegation and management approach to team members' capabilities
  • Help attract and retain top talent in the team while developing a performance culture that is also high care
Requirements:

Core Technical Skills
  • 10+ years of relevant experience within end-to-end third party relationship lifecycle and people leadership with a deep understanding of the relationship between banking services, business operations, contracts and third party relationships
  • Understanding of the Canadian trade agreements and external regulatory requirements ATB is obligated to follow for its procurement practices is an asset (ex: New West Partnership Trade Agreement, Canadian Free Trade Agreement, Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions)
  • Strong business acumen including knowledge of trends in the banking industry and how they relate to ATB's business environment and strategies
  • Competent in third party governance, risk management and operational compliance management including commercial and legal terms in banking and professional services, facilities, real estate leases, office supplies, and technology agreements
  • Solid grasp of financial concepts, such as depreciation schedules, capitalization, return on investment, and total cost of ownership
  • Ability to effectively interpret and act on data visualizations and analytics
Interpersonal Skills
  • Strong, proven record of people and team management, including coaching and constructive feedback, conflict resolution, and workload allocation
  • Exceptional communication with demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior leadership and stakeholders
Certifications
  • Post secondary degree in business, engineering or a related field.
  • A professional designation is considered an asset (e.g. Project Management Professional, Supply Chain Management Professional, Chartered Professional Accountant, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL))
