About Our Opportunity

As the Managing Auditor, you will be accountable for supporting audit activities for police agencies across Nova Scotia. You will lead and support projects (and project teams), maintain effective client relationships, and provide independent advice and recommendations that support innovation and continuous improvement throughout Government and the audit work. You will support the delivery of operational and compliance audits, and formal and informal advisory services to support the improvement of risk management, control, and governance processes.

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety and Investigations, you will be responsible for the promotion of policing excellence in the province through a number of audit activities to ensure the delivery and effectiveness of policing services is meeting the needs in accordance with Provincial Policing Standards and the Nova Scotia Police Act.

The Managing Auditor will provide advice, guidance and support to the policy development process within the Public Safety and Security Division, and will ensure their team holds both the goals of the department and public safety at the core of their work.

Primary Accountabilities

Plan, manage and lead engagements conducted by internal staff and external consultants. This includes developing audit objectives, scope, and criteria, conducting fieldwork, preparing reports and recommendations.

Supervise, schedule, coach, mentor, and provide feedback for work submitted by staff assigned to audits. Ensuring that projects are completed on a timely basis and add value to government operations.

Provide direction and recommendations that support risk management, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout government and within policing in Nova Scotia. Develop and maintain a network with interested parties (including senior government officials), peers, external groups, and other jurisdictions for sharing information related to best practices and emerging risks and issues.

Qualifications and Experience

Manager will lead projects and audit teams, foster client relationships and manage sensitive information. The Managing Auditor requires a relevant undergraduate degree. One or more of the following, an audit designation or relevant master\'s degree, will be considered an asset. A minimum four years of relevant audit experience is preferred. A combination of training and experience will be considered.

The following skills and experience would be considered an asset:
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation;
  • A Certified Internal Auditor designation;
  • Experience in conducting audits on a variety of topics.
In addition, you are a seasoned professional with demonstrated leadership qualities, including a commitment to employee engagement, accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and creating a supportive and positive work culture. You possess strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written, and exercise discretion in handling confidential information. You possess knowledge of the application of culture, processes, business models and technologies of the internet-era in your work. You also excel in managing large projects or programs, multi-tasking, and in leading professional staff.

Pay Grade: EC 12

Salary Range: $3,561.95 - $4,452.43 Bi-Weekly
