Description:

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Manager, User Experience & Process Design is responsible for managing the team that assists Information Technology staff in aligning projects of the enterprise systems with key strategic goals. They will lead their team in describing the primary operational functions of academic and administrative divisions and make recommendations to enhance coherence among services associated with the student information system and the administrative management systems within the context of overarching institutional requirements.

The incumbent will have a primary responsibility of leading the team that evaluates and informs solution design from the perspective of our major stakeholders including students, staff and faculty. They will work closely with the UX practitioners to coordinate user research and contribute to the design of UX deliverables (personas, principles, guidelines, UX design patterns, wireframes, etc.).

The position will also develop and lead a process design practice for the department and its units, overseeing a Process Design Analyst(s) and together formulating a prescribed methodology for Enterprise Applications & Solutions Integration (EASI) teams to utilize in streamlining business processes and enabling technology. The incumbent will facilitate and lead team efforts to establish current and future functional requirements and translate those requirements into specifications for development. The position must establish close working relationships with team members, subject matter experts (SMEs) and technical partners within and outside the immediate project structure and build consensus and drive decisions within a diverse population of partners with potentially disparate interests.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

University graduate or combination of formal education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five (5) years of recent and related experience in a user experience and/or process design leadership role and/or senior administrator experience with involvement in large IT projects. Demonstrated success working with faculty, administrative staff, and students in the implementation of large-scale system changes within an institution. Project management experience required. Experience with user-centered design and research methodologies. Demonstrated HR management experience in a unionized environment. Experience as a business analyst or user experience designer or a combination of the two will be considered an asset. Demonstrated success applying analytical, abstract, creative, evaluative and synthesis abilities within a software development environment. Basic understanding of software development methodologies and user design practices an asset. Experience with current design practices and tools.

SKILLS:

Proven project management skills including: methodology, research, planning and organizational skills. Strong analytical skills, able to take functional requirements and abstract them into models and concepts. Knowledge of web accessibility best practices. Excellent presentation and written communication skills, ability to clearly communicate complex ideas using diagrams, models and prototypes. Ability to train, mentor, motivate and guide others to learn complex technical design skills. Working knowledge of web design principles and tools (User experience, Wireframes (Axure) an asset).

OTHER:

Ability to multi-task and continually prioritize projects and project milestones, due to shifting deadlines and new requirements, is essential. Exceptional leadership and teamwork skills. Must be able to collaborate, influence and cooperate with team members, project sponsors, and other stakeholders. Must be able to deal calmly and effectively with a variety of people. Ability to interpret University policy with regard to maintenance and access of information. Able to identify the need to arrange for the provision of education in the use of supported products. In depth functional knowledge of student systems and higher education requirements are an asset.
