Job Description

As Canada's largest mental health care provider, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health provides evidence to drive system and policy change through the implementation of innovations and novel service delivery interventions. The Research Operations, Services and Support (ROSS) Office is a central group within CAMH Research that provides administrative support to ensure that all research activities carried out at CAMH or by CAMH personnel comply with funder, governmental or institutional policies and regulations.

Position Description:

The ROSS Office is seeking a full time Manager reporting to the Director, People, Space and Integrity. This role will be an integral member of the ROSS team and will work closely with scientists and research staff leading 3 interrelated administrative portfolios centered on supporting and integrating research personnel into the CAMH Research community: Research Trainees, Scientific Appointments, Evaluations, and Promotions, and the Study Start-up Process. The manager will oversee day-to-day team operations and lead the development and execution of key initiatives within each area with the overarching objective of providing Research personnel with efficient and transparent user experiences within a robust framework of policies and procedures. The successful candidate will support a workplace which embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.

In this role you will:

  • Manage the ongoing development, implementation, administration and documentation of systems, policies, and procedures to ensure that CAMH research trainees are registered and on-boarded in compliance with all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Manage the ongoing development, implementation, administration and documentation of systems, policies, and procedures related to scientific appointments, evaluations, and promotions.
  • Develop and manage a streamlined "Study Start-up" process providing integrated navigational assistance and improved user experience in the launch of new research projects.
  • Engage in ongoing service quality improvement initiatives across all portfolios, including close collaboration with other teams and stakeholders, with the objective of constantly improving user experiences.
  • Oversee data management procedures, develop metrics to measure effectiveness of all processes, create and share meaningful reports with stakeholders, and fulfill ad-hoc data requests.
  • Supervise staff on the Research HR, Scientific Appointments & Promotions, and Study Start-up teams (including direct and indirect reports).
This position is primarily located at 33 Ursula Franklin Street.

Qualifications:

The Manager must have:
  • Undergraduate degree;
  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Human Resources Management;
  • Seven (7) or more years of work experience in a customer service-oriented role in a public sector setting, of which a minimum of five (5) years' experience must be in a health research administration environment;
  • Experience must also include a minimum of:
  • Five (5) years' experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, and policy, and
  • Five (5) years' experience with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)'s Employer Portal and the "Labour Market Impact Assessment-Exempt Offer of Employment" process
  • 'Associate Member' status with a provincial or national human resources management professional association
  • Experience developing and implementing projects, and with change management;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated by experience drafting technical / instructional documents, employment offers/agreements, and mass communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and discretion, and a genuine interest in supporting scientific research.

  • Analytical skills and good judgment, to solve highly-complex problems;
  • Well-honed internal and external relationship-building;
  • Ability to quickly find, learn and assimilate new information for decision-making;
  • Ability to capture and articulate risk issues;
  • Ability to prioritize and handle a high volume of diverse projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to effectively communicate and problem-solve with a diverse variety of stakeholders and team members who may have conflicting interests and priorities
