Our client, a leading global renewable energy organization with operations across North America, South America, and Europe, is seeking a Manager of Technical Accounting to play a key role in the company's complex and high profile projects, including Mergers and acquisitions, new investment opportunities, and strategic growth initiatives.
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, and working closely with the Director a?? Technical Accounting, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical accounting components of these transactions, ensuring compliance with IFRS and SOX requirements, and supporting the preparation and presentation of consolidated financial statements for both Canadian and U.S. public entities. This role offers unique exposure to the strategic side of the business, with opportunities to engage directly with senior leadership, external auditors, and global finance teams while contributing to the continued success and expansion of our global portfolio.
Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with global regional finance teams to provide technical accounting support and oversight for growth initiatives.
  • Lead the research and drafting of technical accounting position papers for transactions initiated at the corporate platform.
  • Participate in the valuation of property, plant, and equipment for annual IFRS reporting, as well as valuations related to M&A and other investments.
  • Perform and review accounting analyses under IFRS 9, IFRS 15, and IFRS 16 for various agreements.
  • Ensure strong internal controls and maintain a SOX-compliant close process for all technical accounting functions.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual audit support, working with independent auditors to address inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present financial statements for TSX and NYSE listed entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support the Vice President, Finance with ad hoc analysis and special projects.
The ideal candidate is a CPA (CA/CPA) with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, or audit, ideally within a complex and growing organization. Proven experience working within a public accounting firm, preferably a big 4 firm, would be expected. You will bring demonstrated knowledge of IFRS (with US GAAP considered an asset), hands-on experience with consolidated financial results, and the preparation of supporting documentation for complex financial statements. Experience with valuation techniques, particularly discounted cash flow, and familiarity with internal controls and SOX compliance are important to succeed in this role. You are highly analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of managing demanding situations while meeting tight deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. Excellent communication skills, proficiency in Excel, and knowledge of IFS or Cognos Controller are assets, while bilingualism (English/French) is considered an advantage. This role collaborates with internal stakeholders, and your demonstrated experience presenting your findings to leadership will be needed.

  • Exceptional analytical skills paired with business acumen, enabling the translation of technical accounting insights into strategic recommendations.
  • A collaborative mindset with global exposure, able to work effectively with cross-border teams and senior leadership in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
