You will be orchestrating and reshaping our Tax Slip reporting processes, inspiring your team and requiring a high degree of initiative, curiosity, and adaptability.

What you'll be working on

Leads transformation and acts as SME for the Tax Slip reporting processes. Act as the primary driver of cultural change; motivate and empower team members to adopt new ways of working and consistently challenge the status quo. Coach and mentor team members; identify employee training and development needs; participate in the hiring and employment process for team members; set employee goals and objectives; manage employee performance Own and have oversight over the tax slip reporting production process, ensuring compliance with tax legislation (CRA/MRQ), regulatory requirements and industry practices Ensure all filings comply with the frequent changes in tax laws to mitigate risk and avoid penalties or audits. Act as lead for all projects related to the tax slip reporting and collaborate with IT to define automation requirements while also presenting updates and providing strategic direction to executive stakeholders. Own end-to-end mapping of Tax Slip reporting workflows and data Research and provide input and guidance on how to integrate tax changes into the Company's systems and procedures Provide input to and implement compliance standards for internal controls on tax related matters Act as a technical escalation point for situations relating to taxation issues to ensure compliance through accurate and timely reporting to regulatory bodies Network with industry peers to remain current with competitors tax strategies and processes, and knowledge of taxation trends within the industry Represent Empire Life on industry committees

What we're looking for you to have

Experience in the financial services/insurance industry A deep understanding of the Canadian federal and provincial tax codes, laws, and regulations is essential. This includes knowledge of various tax slip types (e.g., T5, T3, NR4, RL's) 5+ years experience in public accounting or taxation, with minimum of 3 years experience at a senior analyst level 2+ years experience leading teams of minimum 3 people is ideal Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, internet, database and presentation computer software FLMI is an asset Strong management skills and leadership ability, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, stakeholder communication (including executive level) Governance documentation, process mapping and automation readiness Ability to conduct research, investigate and analyze Analytical, evaluation, decision-making and problem resolution skills Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks Ability to propose solutions Well-developed mathematical and accounting skills with exceptional attention to detail Completion of a university degree with courses in accounting, income taxation, advanced tax, business administration and mathematics Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is an asset If you are applying for a position which is open to applicants across Canada, unless otherwise indicated in the position, language proficiency in English is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
