The Manager, Control Room provides oversight, strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure safe and reliable 24/7 operation of our distribution network, optimizing the safety and performance of network assets. This role involves developing and implementing distribution system utilization programs and procedures while leading a team to operate safely and efficiently.



What you'll do



Technical Leadership

Direct and maintain outage management and distribution system utilization programs. Lead technical efforts in compiling reliability, feeder switches, and customer statistics for system planning and inquiries. Provide strategic input for managing and maintaining real-time operational technologies that support 24/7/365 operations. Establish frameworks for dispatch services across the distribution network.

Strategic Planning and Leadership

Contribute to the development and execution of emergency and system planning procedures, practices, and training programs. Define technical specifications and evaluation criteria for effective equipment procurement. Participates in the development, management and the implementation of processes, tools, and technology; in an effort to continuously improve business processes and enhance safety, reliability, productivity and customer service performance Support the development of annual business plans and budgets, managing resources accordingly. Research, recommend, and implement enhanced training, policies, procedures, and processes to improve operational effectiveness.

Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure adherence to legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety standards. Maintain operational compliance with all IESO Market Rules and the Ontario Reliability Compliance Program (ORCP).

Relationship Management

Coordinate operating activities with customers, other departments, and controlling authorities. Maintain effective relationships with Hydro One and IESO Operations representatives. Collaborate with Operations team members to ensure awareness of operational issues.

Supervisor Management

Provide leadership and support to the Supervisors, managing the distribution network to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient electricity supply. Offer people leadership through coaching, development, performance management, and resource planning. Manage department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget.

Safety Leadership

Execute and adhere to the company's safety philosophy. Promote and support the corporate safety culture. Ensure timely completion of safety audits, work observations, and incident investigations.

Who you are

Education & Technical Knowledge

Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Electrical Engineering, College diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology (CET), or any Professional Engineer designation (not limited to Electrical Engineering). Preferred: Membership in Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). Valid class G driver's license. Proficiency in the integrated bulk electrical system and components, distributed energy resources, and their impact on distribution networks. Expertise in SCADA systems, GIS, OMS, and knowledge of Electrical Utility safety rules and Utility Work Protection Code. Understanding of regulatory and governmental requirements (OEB Rules and Regulations, PIPEDA, OHSA). Proficiency with MS Office applications. Journeyman Power System Controller experience is a bonus

Experience

Minimum 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role, with a strong preference for candidates who have overseen 24/7/365 control center and dispatch operations within the electrical distribution industry. Experience in a unionized utility environment is an asset.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies

Availability to support a 24/7 operation, including travel as required. Strong safety orientation with the ability to lead change and engage, develop, and motivate teams. Excellent planning skills with the ability to assess the impact of decisions. Strong written and presentation skills to organize and convey information effectively. Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines. Strong conflict negotiation skills with the ability to influence and resolve difficult situations.

Where you will work



The role is performed primarily in an office environment, with occasional time spent in the field.

Work may involve minor exposure to disagreeable conditions, including inclement weather, while supervising construction sites or maintenance activities.



Compensation

At Alectra, Compensation for non-union positions is determined within a defined salary range for each role. Placement within the salary range depends on several factors, including qualifications, relevant experience, and alignment with the role's requirements. We consider internal equity and market competitiveness to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization. This position is eligible to receive an annual incentive payment based on a combination of individual and Company performance
