AIMCo views Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factor integration in the investment process as critical to enhancing returns and mitigating risks. Our asset class teams, alongside the Sustainable Investing (SI) team, are in-service of making a positive contribution to the ESG aspects our portfolios, while ensuring we foster a high-performing client-first culture and generate superior, risk-adjusted returns.

The Manager, Sustainable Investing, will be responsible for implementing AIMCo\xe2\x80\x99s Real Estate sustainability strategy and initiatives. Working on the Sustainable Investing team and collaborating closely with real estate investment teams, external property managers and service providers, the Manager will deliver on all facets of ESG integration, climate change analysis across our real estate portfolios.

The role includes directly supporting the Real Estate with integration of ESG into the investment due diligence, decarbonization pilots, supporting the development and implementation of building consumption targets, assessing climate change risk factors, leading annual benchmarking and reporting, including GRESB, the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) and Climate-related Financial Disclosures (CFD).

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing sustainability best practices in the domestic and international real estate portfolio in cooperation with from third party managers
  • Leading efforts to reduce real estate-wide greenhouse gas emissions and focusing on decarbonization strategies in cooperation with third party managers
  • Working with external consultants to ensure all energy, carbon, water and waste data is being tracked and recorded and shared with AIMCo by third party managers on a quarterly basis
  • Analyzing and monitoring ESG performance, relative to AIMCo targets, of all directly held assets with cooperation from third party managers
  • Conducting timely and reliable execution of yearly GRESB submission and other reporting initiatives with required input from Real Estate such as with UNPRI and CFD submissions
  • Proposing addition of social and governance strategies into AIMCo Real Estate\xe2\x80\x99s overall sustainability strategy; ensuring all aspects of ESG are captured


Our Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of related experience in Real estate industry
  • 5+ years of related experience in sustainability strategy, implementation, project management, and/or data analytics
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree (or equivalent in experience) in sustainability and/or an MBA with a focus on data, analytics, and reporting would be considered a major asset.
  • LEED or WELL accreditation an asset
  • Sustainability practice at it relates directly to a commercial real estate portfolio
  • Working understanding of GRESB and Energy Star Portfolio Manager
  • Working knowledge of UNPRI, GRI, SASB, ISSB S1 and S2


Success Measures:
Within the first year, the Sustainability Manager will familiarize themselves with the existing sustainability initiatives underway within the Real Estate portfolio globally, and the broader objectives of AIMCo, to develop and execute a strategy and work plan to further enhance AIMCo\xe2\x80\x99s position as a leader in Real Estate sustainability. This work supports AIMCo in generating consistent client returns over the long-term by controlling risk within the portfolio, enhancing leaseability of AIMCo\xe2\x80\x99s Real Estate investments, and making a positive contribution to the environmental, social, and governance aspects of the portfolio.
