About Our Opportunity

The Strategic Services division is responsible for some major departmental and government priorities. We\'re hiring an analytical and proactive thinking team player, with strong initiative, to inform strategic decision-making for the Department.

The Manager, Strategic Initiatives, will ensure that recommendations and advice that flow from the division are informed, innovative, and robust.

In this role, you will have an impact on supporting our vulnerable Nova Scotians. Through your leadership, you aspire to shape the future of the population served by our many programs.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Manager, you will ensure and lead an integrated and collaborative approach to the planning and delivery of government priorities. You will achieve this by:

  • Leading the provision of information, policy options, analysis, and strategic advice to leadership
  • Providing project leadership and support to specific projects and initiatives.
  • Contributing to the effective planning and management of the Department\'s legislative and regulatory agenda by engaging stakeholders to address key issues; researching emerging trends and best practices; and identifying strategies to achieve departmental goals.
  • Managing briefing materials and ensuring effective and timely submissions to Treasury and Policy Board and Executive Council.
  • Identifying issues and initiatives independently by ongoing monitoring of the changing environment and briefing senior management accordingly.
Qualifications and Experience

You have completed post-secondary education in a related discipline and offer several years of experience with policy/program planning and development, combined with supervisory experience. Essential to your success in this role are your incredible people leadership skills. You create environments where teams are supported, inspired, and engaged across multiple locations and remotely.

As you inform strategic plans and initiatives, it is necessary that you are analytical, interpretive, evaluative, and think creatively. In addition to this, it is essential that you:
  • demonstrate capabilities in policy formulation and analysis, as well as research methods
  • are familiar with business and strategic planning, along with project management
  • are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Have experience with risk assessment and consultation skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.
Furthermore, you are known as an innovator and are up to date on industry trends and best practices. You also promote a positive teamwork and collaborative atmosphere and ensure an inclusion and diversity lens is applied to the development and management of strategies, policies, standards, program design, and initiatives.

Working Conditions

Salary Range: $3,238.10 - $4,047.67 Bi-Weekly
