Job Title Manager - Software Development #CSTech



Job Summary

Manages multiple development projects, development groups and/or application support functions for a major business segment. Typically manages 2 or more specialized departments comprised of supervisors, managers, professionals, and/or large numbers of operational support employees. LGD Engine and Climate risk projects are in-house developed systems. Where LGD engine is rule based engine to calculate LGD Rate/LGD Segment/ Loan to value / exposure at default on all Wholesale facilities in RBC. Role involved leading development enhancements to LGD engine and lead active development for Climate risk, integrating with various RBC systems and other risk IT initiatives around credit risk modelling.

This role will act as key member of team in building and maintain a cohesive unit across technology and business with a culture to meet and exceed expectations. Team for these projects primarily based in Toronto.

What will you do?

Technical Analysis, Design and Consulting

• Responsible for solution design and architecture for credit risk reporting application.
• Responsible for Database Designing and providing DBA instructions with Database ER artefacts.
• Agile projects experience will be an asset.
• Partners with infrastructure and business teams in order to design solutions and resolve business system issues (i.e. workflow solutions, batch cycle troubleshooting, technical interface issues, software issues, etc.).
• Works closely with members of the development and QA teams to review requirements and implement solutions.
• Participates in meetings, provide input to presentations, and provides consulting services to business partners and BAs.
• Participates in walkthrough reviews of specifications and technical designs.
• Coding, Testing & Documentation
• Developing micro-services, spark/hive data pull jobs, middle layer restful services.

Planning, Implementation & Support

• Works with Development Director, TSA's, vendor and other IT teams to design and implement downstream and upstream interfaces to the application.
• Assists with implementation of vendor releases into multiple environments.
• Perform change management activities such as source code management, creating activity records for production implementation, creating implementation plans, etc.

Process Knowledge

• Strong analytical and technical skill set, including the ability to transform business logic into technical design.
• Working in Agile or iterative development methodology environment.

Communication

• Effectively communicates with project team members, stakeholders and other IT teams such as application development, middleware and infrastructure teams.
• Participates in small to large group meetings for technical design, decision-making, problem solving and task implementation.

• Resolves conflicts/issues and escalates others as appropriate.

What do you need to succeed?

• Experience working on projects developing and implementing applications for business stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree or community college diploma or equivalent standard in Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering
• 10 + years of development experience with Java / J2EE application design patterns and development.
• Strong Spark/Hive experience.
• Strong experience in web Service application development including RESTful.
• Strong Python development experience.
• Strong Database application development and ETL work using (Hibernate/Spring), database design and advance DB performance-tuning skills on MySQL/SQL Server/Sybase/Oracle or similar databases.
• TDD / unit testing. ( jUnit/ testing)
• Python, Unix/Linux, shell scripting, application configuration and deployment.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience using Selenium for testing.
• Experience with web Service application development including RESTful with experience.
• Experience on working with version control systems like Git /SVN.
• Experience with Cloud / blue mix be an asset.
• Expert in both Real time application and batch processing applications development.
• Conduct code reviews.
• Responsible for producing architecture artefacts for small to mid-sized applications.
• Coordinate and provide input to DBA in building database structures and tables.
• Contribute to unit test plans and provides coordination and support of testing
