About the role:

The Security Technology Manager works with internal and contract team members globally to contribute to a best-in-class physical security program that consists of systems, policies and procedures with the objective of increasing company security awareness, creating a safe working environment, and remaining compliant with applicable regulatory bodies. There will be a focus on key areas such as a wide array of technology supporting physical access control, monitoring and investigations; software supporting access and video integration, incident investigation workflows, vulnerability management, data analytics, crisis management, health and safety, and enhanced personnel protection tracking and monitoring; as well as any and all applications supporting our Physical Security Operations Centre (PSOC).

You will lead a team of professionals and third-party contractors that collaborates with others whose mandate is to develop, implement, maintain and supervise support services, emergency response and other process documentation. You will plan for and execute on technology solutions for operational physical security, crisis management, and incident investigation requirements. This includes contributing to effective security risk management programs, intelligence and investigative programs, security system solutions, providing special event and personnel protection services, as well as delivering advice, strategic direction and education.

This position may interact with senior management at the Corporate and Business Group level, peers within Corporate Compliance, Application Services, Information Security, Risk & Governance, Business Continuity, Real Estate and Human Resources in support for team delivery of physical security, crisis management and emergency response services related to both security and criminal incidents.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with business Managers to ensure that the quality of services provided meet our objectives.
  • Develop networking channels to keep apprised of industry developments and trends.
  • Fundamental knowledge of intelligence and investigative principles, protocols, practices, and industry standards, to ensure technology solutions meet business objectives.
  • Results-oriented with a proven record of delivering to deadlines, able to multi-task and prioritize a wide range of tasks, while understanding the big picture and inter-dependencies across processes and systems.
  • Foundational knowledge of networking, security, access management, and application services.
  • Experience and knowledge of financial and procurement practices, with ability to manage budgets.
  • Positive and energetic attitude, self-motivated with a willingness to take ownership and responsibility.
  • Fulsome understanding of physical security and intelligence solutions (e.g. incident workflow management, access control and video management, perimeter/interior intrusion detection, risk assessment software, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of ethics, diversity, equity, and harassment in the workplace.
  • Strong collaboration skills, self-starter, strategic thinker, negotiator, and consensus builder.
What you need to succeed:
  • Degree or diploma in computer sciences, information technology, or application development. Additional education in the areas of information/physical security and investigations, or risk management is an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading people and managing technology projects, with preference for specialization in Information Technology or Information Security / Cybersecurity programs - preferably at a leading financial services or asset management organization.
  • Professional designation preferred in IT Security (such as CISSP or CISM), and/or Physical Security (such as CPP or PSP).
Preferred skills:
  • Maintain and evolve the risk-based security technology strategy and road map process by driving standardization of processes and systems, identification of opportunities for centralized monitoring and control, managing total security costs and driving automation.
  • Collaborate with senior technical leaders from across the organization to develop strategies for the implementation, integration, and maintenance of security hardware and software.
  • Analyze metrics, identify trends, and create processes and strategies to address any risks or vulnerabilities associated with the trends.
  • Create and implement knowledge documents, focusing on content verification and accuracy, as they relate to the use of security technology (hardware and software).
  • Manage and foster relationships with internal business partners, such as our IT Support Team, System Architect, and Enterprise Account Management for operational execution and service delivery of technology needs.
  • Build engagement and manage SLAs and KPIs of third-party security providers including security systems integrators, SaaS providers, and other vendor services.
  • Develop information technology and security knowledge among team members.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
