CMLS Financial, one of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s largest Residential lenders, is looking for a Manager, Residential Mortgages to join our growing team. As a Manager, Residential Underwriting, you will lead and manage the Underwriters and Document specialist in our office. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate adjudication and closing of residential loans, in addition to maintaining service level agreements, resolving escalations, partnering with the sales team to build and promote broker relationships, and identifying best practices.

About the Role

  • Provide the effective leadership, oversight, tools and support that the Underwriters and Document Specialists need to be successful with the day-to-day operations
  • Responsible for consistent adherence to predetermined Service Level Agreements and targets by managing resources effectively to distribute work between team members
  • Provide training and ensure that team members understand and adhere to all applicable policies and guidelines
  • Together with the quality control and quality assurance, support effective compliance, risk management and risk controls in the origination of the residential mortgage business portfolio by exercising consistent, objective and sound credit decisions in accordance with risk appetites, guidelines and procedures.
  • Conduct analysis on declined and canceled deals to identify trends and recommend solutions to minimize lost opportunities.
  • Review and decide mortgage applications recommended by staff for completeness and accuracy to ensure compliance with established guidelines, procedures, pricing and risk appetite.
  • Identify best practices and opportunities to improve internal processes and procedures
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of CMLS products and market conditions and advise team members of changes and trends
  • Handle escalations from regional managers, brokers, underwriters, document specialist and other internal parties by providing expertise advice to ensure an appropriate resolution is provided
  • Build and maintain broker relationships
  • Build, analyze and monitor servicing reports in order to identify trends and develop action plans as needed (staffing and business metrics, etc.)
  • Participate in audits and Quality Assurance reviews
  • Provide leadership, motivation and inspiration to team members in order to promote the achievement of goals and objectives
  • Ensure team members adapt our Customer Forward approach when providing service to clients
  • Work with Directors to develop and implement appropriate objectives, metrics and performance standards for team members to drive growth and profit maximizing opportunities.
  • Participate in the internal hiring as well as lead and performance review processes for underwriters and document specialists
  • Identify performance gaps and develop performance improvement plans as needed
This role is for you if you:
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a Residential underwriting environment and minimum 5 years of Residential underwriting experience
  • Optimize teamwork by articulating how team members work collaboratively to fulfill program, department and corporate objectives while consistently making time for team building and development.
  • Proven ability to implement and manage change initiatives
  • Effectively manage performance, including the establishment of clear goals and expectations, coach team members with candid and regular feedback.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in decision making process
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Highly organized with past experience managing projects, team workflows and day-to-day activities
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Excel applications (PowerPivot an asset)
