The Opportunity:

We're looking for a Manager, Research and Portfolio Management to join our Responsible Investing & ESG Services team.

Reporting to the VP, Head of Responsible Investing & ESG Services, the Manager, Research and Portfolio Management is responsible for reviewing and enhancing the ESG evaluation process, ensuring investment holdings meet our required ESG investment criteria, as well as identifying research needs and opportunities in order to maintain thought leadership status for NEI within the Responsible Investing industry. The Manager will also collaborate with the analysts to discuss research ideas and participate in corporate engagement as necessary.

What your day looks like:
  • Review and enhance the ESG evaluation process based on industry best practices, ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of the ESG program
  • Monitor investment holdings to ensure they meet our required ESG investment criteria as well as provide recommendations to security holdings in a portfolio
  • Work collaboratively with team members to identify research needs and opportunities in order to maintain thought leadership status for NEI within the Responsible Investment industry
  • Participate in and contribute to the ESG due diligence process with our existing external portfolio managers and potential new relationships
  • Maintain evaluations database and research documentation and assist with the compilation of portfolio analysis and attribution for reporting and Board presentation materials
  • Assist team with special projects and support research requirements as needed
Requirements

Your experience and skills:
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in investment research, ESG research and/or portfolio management (equity and/or credit)
  • University graduate in related discipline preferred (business, sustainability, environmental sciences, accounting, finance)
  • Completion of CFA or working towards CFA designation; FRM, CPA, FSA Credential or Master's degree an asset
  • Strong research and analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and written skills with the ability to explain complex ideas simply
  • Intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated passion for responsible investing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and Bloomberg, FactSet or similar investment research platform
  • Programming skills (Python, SQL or similar language) or use of visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau) an asset
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset
