About Us
The Geoscience and Mines Branch of the Department of Energy and Mines studies, interprets and reports on mineral resource and environmental geoscience issues, and promotes mineral development opportunities to achieve optimum economic, social, and environmental value from the sector. Within the Branch, the Geological Survey Division includes, amongst others, a team of geologists largely responsible for delivering mineral resource, environmental, and data management/dissemination geoscience programs, mineral-investment promotional activities, and providing geoscience advice to government, the public and mineral industry stakeholders.
About Our Opportunity
The Geoscience and Mines Branch is looking for a leader to join the team to help develop and supervise the geoscience research team of the Geological Survey Division. This position could be a new opportunity for you to grow as a leader and expand your geoscience knowledge. Projects conducted by your team are broad in both region and topics, spanning the entire province and including research and work on mineral deposits, surficial geology, geohazards, groundwater, coastal erosion and flooding, marketing, and more. This position gives you an opportunity to be involved in learning about the unique and fascinating geology that Nova Scotia has to offer and to lead a team in the public service in Nova Scotia.
Primary Accountabilities
Reporting to the Director of the Geological Survey Division, the Manager, Project Operations leads a research team and is accountable for the management of human and financial resources, project planning, and technical oversight of geoscience teams and projects. The team\'s goal is to collect and disseminate relevant, timely, and accessible geoscience information. The projects and deliverables of the team should fulfil the needs of government, the minerals industry, and all other users of geoscience information in Nova Scotia, aiding in the development of the province\'s geological resources and identifying risks from natural geological hazards. The Manager\'s job is to ensure that the team can successfully complete this goal. The Manager may also collaborate with geoscientists and researchers on geoscience studies in Nova Scotia.
Qualifications and Experience
This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelor\'s degree in Geoscience or a related technical discipline, plus a minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience. The successful candidate for this position has proven experience in planning and managing projects and managing a team.
