Position Scope

As Manager, Project Engineering, you understand industrial processes, engineering, procurement, and plant construction. You have experience working for an EPC firm or a Technology Licensor as a Project Manager developing FEP studies and /or Process Design Packages of large projects in oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical or in the Pulp and Paper process industry, including interfacing with the client / plant developer would be ideal.

You are required to distill complex problems into simple solutions and must be comfortable in an environment where you work towards multiple deadlines with minimum supervision. Travel to engage with customers and partners is expected.

Responsibilities

Technical:

  • Interact with internal and external engineering teams to develop FEP-1, FEP- 2 (Pre-FEED) and Process Design Packages for commercial projects, as well as smaller capital projects for Carbon Engineering's Innovation Center
  • Manage Master Service Agreements with CE's engineering partners.
  • Interact with the client (plant developers) on technical aspects related to CE's technologies, such as Capex and Opex data, area requirements, utilities, quantities and specifications, site selection criteria, etc.
  • Prepare engineering services proposals, including definition of scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Communicate with internal and external project stakeholders across all organization levels.
  • Balance project deliverables and competing priorities.
  • Identify and mitigate project risk.
  • Interfaces with the in-house Operations, Engineering, and Technology Department teams, as well as external engineering partners and clients.
  • Also act as project manager as required.
Leadership and Management:
  • Support Projects Department initiatives including developing procedures and work instructions.
  • Provide peer reviews and mentorship to Projects Department team members.
  • Support contractual activities, such as NDAs, MOUs, Master Service Agreements, and License Agreements.
  • Lead a team of project engineers.
Safety:
  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture within the Projects & Engineering Team.
  • Experience in HAZID, HAZOP and other risk analysis and assessment tools.
  • Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported in line with company policy.
Education and Experience

Education:
  • B.Sc. in Engineering, preferable Chemical or Process.
Experience:
  • P.Eng registered or able to register with EGBC and stamp engineering documents.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired but not required.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience, including in a Project Manager's role.
  • Demonstrated experience in a project execution role for large capital projects (+US$100M) involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing engineering services proposals.
Key Competencies
  • Expertise in preparing cost estimates, planning, scheduling, and construction of industrial plants starting from front end engineering design and progressing through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with the FEP processes and their deliverables, AACE Cost Estimation, CII guidelines and best practices, including PDRI reviews.
  • Experience in preparation and issue of RFIs/RFQs, as well as in reviewing vendor's documents, drawings, datasheets, specification, and calculations.
  • Experience in dealing with chemical processes, understanding of specific consumptions of raw materials and utilities, as well as variable, fixed and levelized costs.
  • Familiarity with Aspen Plus (HYSYS or similar simulation tools)
  • Familiarity with Primavera or MS Projects and Project Controls in general.
  • Familiarity in development of new technologies and products; clean tech experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity in performing technology landscape analysis activities.
  • Familiarity in life cycle analysis, plant techno-economics and financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems
  • Experience in site selection and permitting activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to distill complex problems into simple solutions.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently towards multiple deadlines with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Thrive on doing things that have not been done before (explorer mindset) and tackling challenging problems.
  • Willingness to travel for customer and partner engagements.
