Our Team:

Our corporate office, located in downtown Toronto serves as the headquarters for the global Base Metals business, providing support to all our Base Metals operations. In Mississauga, you\xe2\x80\x99ll find Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Base Metals Technology Development team; a group of highly trained engineers and scientists working to improve Vale\xe2\x80\x99s competitive edge and support its growth strategies by coming up with safer and more environmentally responsible technology.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Manager Project Engineering Governance to join our Studies & Engineering team in Toronto/Sudbury. This is a permanent position.

The incumbent will take ownership of project-related norms, optimize design criteria, and incorporate up-to-date legislation and advancements in engineering and construction practices across a diverse portfolio of projects: about 30 projects located across multiple countries (e.g., Canada, Brazil, and Indonesia); total investment exceeding US$ 30 billion; and various technologies, such as underground and open-pit mining, hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processing plants, and related infrastructure components including dams, geotechnical structures, roads, ports, and power plants. Additionally in this position you will:

  • Collaborate with project teams to identify and disseminate good practices, develop training programs, and enhance team capabilities.
  • Work closely with project teams and IT department to develop and maintain computational systems, implement effective document control measures, and ensure seamless project performance management.
  • Engage in collaborative work with new partners, embracing improvements, integrating contributions, and supporting trade-offs studies and constructability reviews.
  • Normative: Take ownership of project-related norms within the assigned area. Collaborate with relevant departments to define, simplify, and optimize design criteria for the portfolio of projects. Streamline existing norms, eliminate outdated ones, and incorporate up-to-date legislation and advancements in engineering and construction practices.
  • Knowledge Management: Collaborate with multiple project teams to identify, record, and disseminate good practices. Develop, deliver, and monitor training programs in collaboration with the HR team to address project-specific needs and enhance team capabilities.
  • Integrated Project Systems: Work closely with project teams and the IT department to identify, develop, and maintain computational systems, such as 3D design software, construction and commissioning integration tools, and project performance management systems. Ensure the implementation and maintenance of effective document control measures in close coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and improvement related to norms, knowledge management, and integrated project systems. Collaborate with the General Manager and other stakeholders to implement best practices, streamline workflows, and enhance efficiency within the assigned area.
About You

Education:
  • An Undergraduate Degree is required in related disciplines.
  • Certification in a professional association (P. Eng) is required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 11-15 years of relevant experience in similar role.
Skills:
  • Cultural intelligence and adaptability to collaborate with different cultures, genders, and perspectives.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively lead and manage a diverse team.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring their successful implementation within budget and schedule.
