Overview of role:

WestJet is positioned to emerge from the pandemic as one of the leading carriers in North America and the Manager, Process and Lean will be joining the organization at an exciting and unique inflection point. WestJet's Project Management Office plays a critical role in collaborating across WestJet to plan & execute the critical projects and strategic initiatives that have widespread impact across the enterprise.

Reporting to the Director, Digital Steering, the Manager, Process & Lean will lead a team of Lean Specialists and is accountable for partnering with senior stakeholders across all aspects of the organization to 1) Identify opportunities to streamline processes, 2) Prepare and handoff streamlined processes to the Digital delivery team for automation & digitization. These opportunities will result in cost reductions and productivity improvements that can be measured. In addition, they are responsible for the process mining tool & software that provides an "x-ray" view of business processes in order to further identify and solve for inefficiencies.

Key deliverables include:

  • Lead a small but mighty team of top-level Lean Specialists who will work with key stakeholders across the organization to uncover opportunities for streamlining processes that will drive cost reductions and productivity improvements
  • Create the foundations, requirements, and MVP (Minimum Viable Product) for processes that can be automated and digitized by the Digital delivery team
  • Champion and teach disciplined root cause problem solving at all levels in the organization and organically grow a Lean Centre of Excellence in the company Mobilize a Lean company culture through showcasing the value of lean skillsets & mindsets so that each business unit begins to develop this within their own teams
  • Coach and teach Lean practices to the organization through war room design, command centre, obeya, kaizens, etc
  • Partner with the Digital Innovation team to plan & facilitate kaizen events that are focused on delivering an immediate improvement to our enterprise KPI's
  • Create visual displays of data to help others understand complicated concepts more easily
  • Implement and manage a process mining tool & software that will allow for a deeper view of business processes in order to surface inefficiencies
  • Manage and motivate team members by ensuring team members are getting regular two-way feedback into overall performance. Ensure development plans are established for all resources to provide a clear path for growth
Experience and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Lean / Six Sigma Black Belt or other advanced, lean certifications is strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience leading & supporting continuous improvement opportunities in a complex environment
  • People leadership experience; leading teams of varying levels, mentoring & coaching. A combination of formal and informal experience will be considered
  • Deep knowledge of lean concepts, practices, methodologies, and tools
  • Exceptional facilitation skills; experience in varying sizes of groups and a plethora of tools in their toolkit
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to connect goals & objectives to measurable outputs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to positively influence the behavior and performance of peers, and positively impact the decision-making of senior management
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and changing environment, working collaboratively across all levels of the organization
  • Previous airline or aerospace industry experience is an asset, especially within an operational context
