About the Calgary Stampede Foundation MISSION By creating programs and places for youth to thrive, the Calgary Stampede Foundation creates motivated and engaged young Calgarians, empowered to do amazing things. VISION Welcoming visitors from around the world, the Calgary Stampede Foundation will create a unique campus with unparalleled learning experiences. Year-round visitors and learners alike will be inspired by Stampede\xe2\x80\x99s stories and spirit. Programs will engage and excite next generation citizens reflective of our communities. We will build on the Calgary Stampede\xe2\x80\x99s more than century-long partnership with Elbow River Camp families to create a stronger, greater community -for all. GOALS Building our Vision: We will welcome more than 160,000 visitors, learners and educators to inspiring new spaces in our 10-acre campus. Central to our vision is the new SAM Centre. Scheduled to open in Spring 2024, the SAM Centre will offer a year-round immersive and interactive experience that explores the rich history of the Stampede and its role in our communities. Supporting Youth Achievement: We will expand programs scope and reach, responding and reflecting diverse communities. A leader in community-based education, the Foundation offers 10 programs including:

  • Young Canadians, Stampede Showband, Band of Outriders, Showriders
  • Stampede School, OH Ranch School, Indigenous Youth Program
  • 4H Rodeo and 4H on Parade
  • Scholarships including a province-wide youth Stampede poster competition and program
Position Summary Reporting to the Executive Director & Vice President, Foundation, The Manager, Philanthropy & Community Investment is the major gifts officer of the Foundation. The Manager will identify, secure, and steward philanthropic support for the Foundation\xe2\x80\x99s initiatives. In particular, the Manager will seek out transformative gifts that contribute to placemaking, community, and youth development. The Manager will also provide mentorship and guidance to staff, helping to develop their skills, experience, and career path.

Roles and Responsibilities Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Build a strong philanthropic program that includes fundraising initiatives such as major gifts, planned giving, annual giving and special events
  • Exclusively responsible for maximizing restricted and non-restricted revenue to realize the Foundation\xe2\x80\x99s mission and objectives
  • Develop and implement development plans, including continued major and transformation gifts philanthropy, annual giving and new programs in, planned giving, and high-margin special events
  • Work with a Fundraising Committee of volunteers who are influential community and philanthropic leaders. Over time, the team of volunteers will include 25+ volunteers in subcommittees ranging from special events, 1912 Society, and planned giving.
  • Build, manage and mentor a Philanthropy team of professionals who are successful in their roles and respected by donors and volunteers alike
  • Lead a process for strengthening and updating cases for support that inspire all types of philanthropy, including transformational giving
  • Establish and meet annual objectives and goals and monitor progress
  • Steward individuals, grant-makers, foundations, organizations and corporations
  • Develop and manage the budget and operating plan for the development and fundraising activities including revenue and expenses
  • Prioritize and foster strong relationships with donors and prospective donors
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, safety, and respect
  • Report to VP, Foundation on development and progress of fundraising projects
Qualifications and Education Requirements The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have the ability to multitask as well as the following:
  • Full understanding of the principles and practices of fundraising, public relations, and marketing with at least 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a fundraising environment or equivalent
  • An undergraduate degree/certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Previous major gifts experience a strong asset
  • Knowledge of SalesForce is an asset
  • Familiarity youth programming/development and/or the arts is an asset
