Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director Health Services, the Manager of Patient Care provides leadership for the health care team in promoting patient centered care. The Manager of Patient Care ensures that adequate human and material resources are available to support the 24-hour delivery of safe, quality patient care. The incumbent creates an environment that enables the Facility/Region to fulfill its mission and performance goals. The Manager of Patient Care seeks to promote and maintain a positive, professional, team oriented and service conscious environment. Demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Experience

  • Minimum three years current, relevant clinical experience and minimum one-year leadership experience in a health care setting required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Bachelor\'s degree in related health discipline required.
  • Master\'s Degree preferred.
  • Successful completion of relevant post-graduate training may be required or preferred, in designated areas.
  • Formal management training preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the appropriate professional association required.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the applicable policy.

  • Knowledge in:
  • Regional/site/unit policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines relating to: clinical care, administrative, financial, and human resource management.
  • Standards and scope of practice for direct reports.
  • Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Continuum of Services/Community Resources.
  • Risk Management Strategies.
  • Quality Improvement Processes.
  • Management Principles.
  • Relative Collective Agreements.
  • Principals of delegation.
  • Roles and responsibilities of the health care team.
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal, critical thinking, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to delegate appropriately and supervise performance of staff.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and attend to unit operations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to plan, manage and implement change.
  • Ability to function in a computerized environment.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Excellent command of the English language (both oral and written).
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
