Overview
Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Municipal Operations, the Manager, Parks is an integral part of the Department's management team and is responsible for the maintenance and operations of White Rock's parks infrastructure. The Manager, Parks provides strong leadership and development opportunities to a small group of full-time staff, which increases during peak season. The role is accountable for parks administration, maintenance contracts, horticulture, arboriculture, turf management, and irrigation. The City is looking for an individual looking to make their next career step.
The ideal candidate is someone who accepts accountability, who is confident, strategic, driven, possess high energy, and exercises sound judgment. The individual will demonstrate the ability to change gears quickly, analyze and assess situations and prioritize accordingly. You are a proven operational parks leader with the ability to create and sustain shared commitment on key municipal parks matters. With your diverse background and experience, you will bring with you new techniques that will inspire the creativity of the parks staff, adding to the beatification of the City.
Qualifications
Three to five years of progressive supervisory and leadership experience in a related field, preferably in parks maintenance / operations in a unionized environment.
A degree in Plant Sciences, Horticulture or a related field, or a diploma or Journeyman trades qualification in a relevant area of study is ideal.
Additionally, the successful candidate will have completed post-secondary courses in management and supervision.
Requirements
You will develop, schedule and carry out maintenance programs; make recommendations for amendments to policies and bylaws;
develop, coordinate and prioritize safety procedures and standards.
manages parks staff, contractors and fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
You will also be involved in planning and coordinating the Department's annual work program and budget and assisting in the development of long-term corporate plans. You will provide constructive input into Capital Projects from an aesthetic and maintenance perspective.
Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety-first attitude.
