Position Summary
The Manager of Tenant Relations / Augmentative Communication Facilitator plays a key role in supporting tenants with physical and/or communication disabilities. This position is responsible for enhancing tenant independence, ensuring quality tenant-staff relationships, facilitating the use of communication devices, and advocating for tenants' needs within NYDP and the broader community. The role also includes participation in the management team.
Key Responsibilities
Communication Support
Initiate, set up, adapt, and support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
Facilitate communication between tenants, and between tenants and staff.
Provide communication support to tenants by accompanying them to appointments, interviews, and meetings. This may also include occasional, unplanned visits to the emergency room or hospital as needed.
Tenant Advocacy & Support
Maintain ongoing contact with tenants to identify needs and concerns.
Liaise and advocate with community resources and service providers on behalf of tenants.
Assist tenants in assessing and organizing their attendant care service requirements.
Encourage participation in social, educational, and recreational programs.
Community Engagement & Enrichment
Identify and support tenants' leisure and recreational interests.
Plan, coordinate, and lead tenant events and activities.
Stay up to date with programs available to people with disabilities (e.g., literacy, education, training) and build relationships with those providers.
Management & Administration
Serve as an on-call manager including carrying a cellphone in the event of tenant emergencies.
Participate as a member of NYDP's management team.
Prepare written reports regarding tenant incidents, concerns, or service changes.
Support administrative duties as assigned, particularly during the absence of other management team members or as directed by the Executive Director or Board of Directors.
Provide representation for the Executive Director at external committees and meetings, as required.
Coordinate staff training, including First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Back Care, etc.
Qualifications
Experience working with adults with physical and/or communication disabilities.
Knowledge of AAC tools, strategies, and supports.
Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and advocacy skills.
Ability to organize and coordinate programs and services that promote independence and inclusion.
Experience in a supervisory or management capacity in a community or residential setting is considered an asset.
Valid driver's license is an asset.

Regular interaction with tenants in their home and shared spaces.
Community visits are required for appointments, offsite social events, or program exploration.
On-call participation with the ability to respond to tenant-related emergency situations.
Participation in management team meetings.
