The Opportunity
The District of Sechelt is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Public Works to lead our dedicated team in maintaining and enhancing the community's infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Operations, this key leadership role is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and cleanliness of all municipal facilities, fleet, properties, and infrastructure.
As Manager, you will provide strategic direction and hands-on support to Public Works staff, ensuring high-quality service delivery and alignment with departmental goals and objectives. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing coastal community. Key responsibilities include:
Lead, train, schedule, and supervise Public Works staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
Ensure compliance with all District policies, procedures, practices, WorkSafeBC regulations and all applicable external regulations.
Manage the municipal fleet and equipment, including maintenance, procurement, and inventory control.
Oversee departmental budgeting, purchasing, and resource allocation.
Respond to after-hours emergencies and coordinate appropriate action.
Address public inquiries and concerns with professionalism and tact.
Collaborate with Engineering on capital project planning and execution.
Coordinate contractors, internal resources and permitting (archaeological and environmental) to complete Public Works projects.
Liaise with external stakeholders, contractors, and other levels of government.
