We are seeking a Manager of Permits & Inspection Services to oversee the permits and inspections process, ensuring compliance with building codes, bylaws, and regulations while delivering exceptional customer service. If you are passionate about community development, regulatory compliance, and customer service, we invite you to apply and be a key player in shaping a growing community and the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESLead, supervise, and coordinate the Building Services section of the department.Manage the processing of building permit applications across relevant municipal departments.Oversee customer service and ensure compliance in building inspections.Assist in preparing, administering, and managing the Permits and Inspections budget.Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards to improve efficiency and service delivery.Ensure that residential, commercial, and industrial structures comply with building, fire, health, and safety codes.Oversee the review of plans, drawings, and specifications for compliance with the BC Building Code and City bylaws.Provide guidance to engineers, architects, developers, contractors, and the public on bylaw and code interpretations.Participate in long-term planning to enhance inspection programs and address bylaw changes.Investigate complaints related to regulatory and customer service matters and take appropriate action.Conduct inspections as needed to determine permit requirements for completed work.Participate in hiring, training, and managing staff, including handling labour relations matters.Attend and provide advisory support in Council meetings, committees, and technical boards.Draft bylaws, prepare contracts, and contribute to complex reports and analyses.Implement and oversee continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer service and operational efficiency.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIESLevel 3 Certification from the Building Officials' Association of BC (BOABC).Diploma or degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Technology, or a related field.5-7 years of progressive experience in municipal inspection services, building operations, and permit processing, including supervisory responsibilities.Extensive knowledge of policies, regulations, and bylaws governing building and development operations.Proven ability to manage projects, control costs, and allocate resources effectively.Strong experience in business planning, operational improvements, and building administration.Ability to prepare detailed reports, estimates, and administrative documentation.Strong interpersonal, mediation, networking, and problem-solving skills.Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate team performance while fostering career development.Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including research and statistical reporting.Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License.EQUITY STATEMENTAt the City of Maple Ridge, we are dedicated to cultivating an inclusive culture that actively values and embraces diversity.
