Surrey Women's Centre is the largest Victim Services Agency in BC for women, girls and marginalized genders escaping sexual violence, domestic violence, and other forms of gender-based violence. We use a feminist, trauma-informed and harm reduction models of practice. The position requires a solid feminist lens and a grounded knowledge and analysis of violence against women and gender-based violence.

$31.00 - $35 an hour

Job Summary

The Manager of Outreach Services coordinates the day-to-day operations of our outreach (SMART Van) and drop-in program. This is a unique position designed to ensure Surrey Women's Centre programs and services are available to survivors of gender-based violence including those marginalized by homelessness, poverty, substance misuse, sex work and sexual exploitation. This is a full-time position working a combination of weekdays and evenings. Services are provided from a feminist, anti-oppressive & harm reduction perspective.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Drop - In Program

Create and maintain a safe and welcoming space for those accessing Surrey Women's Centre's drop-in program. Work 1-on-1 with clients to assess their immediate safety and determine their practical needs. Provide immediate access to drop-in resources including clothing, food, toiletries, and harm reduction supplies. Provide direct support to those seeking alternative reporting options (i.e., Bad Date Reporting). Assist drop-in clients with navigating and accessing internal SWC support programs including victim services, counselling and outreach services. Work collaboratively with in-house staff and external agencies to develop and coordinate drop-in activities for clients accessing services. Build relationships with local businesses, community agencies and individual donors to increase in-kind donations to the program.

SMART Van

Provide outreach services to vulnerable populations through the SMART Van. Services include providing practical assistance, emotional support, safety planning, collecting bad date reports and distributing supplies to meet basic needs. Oversee the collection of bad date reports received by the team and ensure adequate procedures are followed. Assist in the coordination of the day-to-day operations of the SMART Van program including maintaining/replenishing supplies, coordinating monthly schedule and ensuring nightly reports are complete and up-to-date. Ensure regular maintenance of the SMART Van and when necessary, coordinate repairs.

Administrative & Supervisory

Support SWC leadership team with maintaining work procedures that're aligned with current health and safety protocols for drop-in and SMART Van program.

Assist with tasks related to volunteer and staff recruitment, screening, training and retention.

Maintain accurate and up to date records including shift reports, data collection and volunteer records.

Participate in monthly Joint Occupational Health and Safety meetings.

Support SWC Leadership team with facilitating ongoing staff trainings related to direct service and Occupational Health and Safety procedures.

Assist in the creation and maintenance of the monthly schedule to ensure adequate staffing levels.

Qualifications and Attributes

Experience:

Minimum one year experience in a supervisory role, ideally in a non-profit setting. Minimum two years' experience providing support to survivors of gender-based violence. Previous experience working with clients dealing with gender-based violence, homelessness, mental health, substance misuse and/or poverty. Experience with de-escalating high-stress situations and working with potentially aggressive clients. Experience facilitating trainings or workshops.

Skills & Abilities:

Capacity to lead, coach, train and mentor staff and volunteers effectively. Creative approach to problem solving and strong capacity to manage multiple programs. Able to act decisively in high-stress situations. Advanced understanding of entire Microsoft Office Suite Ability to speak additional languages would be considered an asset.
Must possess a class 5 license and have access to a personal vehicle.

Education:

A post-secondary degree and/or diploma in social work or other related fields including psychology, social work, social services, criminology etc. A combination of education, personal experience and professional experience will also be considered. Current certification in Emergency First Aid (or higher) and Overdose Response training. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification would be considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position includes evening, overnight and weekend hours. Outreach staff are scheduled for 9pm - 2am, most nights of the week.
