Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Logistics and Capital Projects (Kwadacha Nation) and General Manager (Kwadacha Natural Resources (KNR)), the Manager of Occupational Health and Safety is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive safety program across Kwadacha Nation and KNR operations. This role supports all phases of safety execution, from strategic planning and policy development to on-site coordination and continuous improvement. The Manager ensures that all safety initiatives meet regulatory standards and reflect the Nation's commitment to protecting its people, assets, and infrastructure.
Design and implement a Nation-wide safety program tailored to diverse operational environments
Conduct safety audits and inspections across capital projects, maintenance operations, KNR projects, warehouse, wood products manufacture, public works, and office settings
Lead safety training and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and other applicable regulations
Collaborate with department leads to develop site-specific protocols and emergency response plans
Manage office safety procedures, including ergonomics, fire safety, and emergency preparedness
Investigate incidents and near-misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Maintain accurate records of safety meetings, inspections, and training activities
Oversee vehicle and fleet safety compliance, including driver safety protocols, record keeping, and regulatory requirements
Prepare and present safety programs and fleet performance reports to senior leadership
Monitor emerging safety regulations and best practices, updating programs and policies proactively
Travel regularly between Prince George and Fort Ware to ensure consistent standards and support
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, ideally within public works or Indigenous community settings
Experience in a Manufacturing setting such as a sawmill or Value-added production facility
Experience with Forestry or Construction sites
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is considered an asset
Strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations (WorkSafeBC)
Satisfactory reference checks and Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License, clear Driver's Abstract, and willingness to travel
