The Communications Leader is the key point person for a full range of corporate communication service and support within Yukon's three hospitals. The position provides internal communication and engagement (employees, volunteers and medical staff) and external communication and engagement (community, partners and media). The Leader also ensures any corporate communication or message is consistent with our goals, values and brand. This position needs to build positive relationships as it works closely with senior leaders, managers, health system partners and direct care/operations hospital personnel.
This position helps tell the story of the incredible work our entire team does; shares information so Yukoners can access the safe and excellent care they need and employees can continue to provide great care; and ensures our community knows about any changes to hospital services.
The Communications Leader develops and shares consistent, timely messages; uses clear and effective methods to communicate; builds awareness about and support for our organization; positively influences; and fosters trust and engagement among all of our people, partners and communities. This position is an advocate for and will be required to focus on ensuring our corporate communications build capacity and knowledge to advance reconciliation and support culturally safe practices.
This position can have a significant influence both strategically and operationally, playing a key role in ensuring timely and effective corporate communications help us achieve the best care every time.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
Excellent knowledge of communications and engagement strategies, methods and practices;
Knowledge of practice and procedures in hospital operations and/or health and social services program delivery;
Knowledge of trends and developments in First Nations governments and Yukon politics;
Outstanding communication (speaking, writing and presentation) skills;
Good analytical, problem solving and evidence-based, decision-making skills;
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships, model appropriate behaviour and influence others to work effectively as a team;
Excellent engagement and facilitation skills;
Strong computer skills including proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), website content management systems and other relevant software;
Strong organizational, coordination, and time-management skills;
Ability to proficiently use and optimize communications and engagement through tools such as websites, social media and surveys
Ability to mobilize knowledge, set goals and achieve desired outcomes in a way that supports an organization's values and direction;
Ability to exercise tact, political astuteness and diplomacy when dealing with all of our people, partners and stakeholders;
Ability to be self-directed, take initiative, be assertive, and prioritize work demands;
Ability to deal with a variety of highly stressful situations;
Ability to think/work independently, be accountable, and operate with minimal direction;
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and reliability; and
Cultural competence
Diploma or degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field such as Business Administration; and
A minimum of five (5) years' directly related experience preferably in a hospital or health care setting
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
