Job Description

This position supports the development of programs and policies, facilitating the implementation and maintenance of Health & Safety Programs and initiatives. The Manager, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) will provide guidance, coaching and technical expertise to the residences, operations by supporting Health & Safety initiatives and providing H&S oversight across sites in all provinces in which we operate.



Key Activities



In conjunction with the Sr. Director, develops and oversees and/or conducts field inspections, job observations; health and safety audits and other types of reviews to monitor compliance to health and safety requirements and to identify risks Conduct root-cause analysis, identify incident causes, and assist homes and/or operations in implementing corrective and preventative measures Identify and analyze trends Deliver health and safety training to operations Assist with development and delivery of health and safety communication to operations Provide guidance, coaching and technical expertise at the site level to home management and joint health and safety committees to ensure management engagement and accountability in H&S and facilitate the execution of H&S initiatives. Communicate observations, non-compliance and risks to stakeholders, and provide and implement corrective and preventive measures to ensure compliance and mitigate risks Oversee, prepare and submit compliance reports as required Ensure consistency across Chartwell homes by replicating successes/sharing opportunities and learnings from incidents to drive continuous improvement. Establish and cultivate relationships with operational and management teams to inspire, coach, influence and challenge behaviour and H&S leadership. Support the development and implementation of company-wide health and safety strategy, tools, programs and initiatives to drive consistency and sustainability. Participate in and execute projects designed to reduce risk and improve health and safety controls.

Qualifications



Education:

Diploma or Degree in a recognized Occupational Health & Safety program or an equivalent combination of experience and training.


Experience:

3+ years' progressive experience in H&S role. Experience in working with management, union personnel and safety committees developing safety programs, conducting audits, training and implementing best practices.

Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of applicable Provincial safety legislation/ regulations and Occupational Health and Safety standards. Familiarity with Claims Management and applicable Workers' Compensation Board policies and procedures. Intermediate level of proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Strong interpersonal skills Strong analytical skills, comfortable with a structured and methodical approach Proven success in change management Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Preference will be given to candidates with French language skills
