CPP Investments is seeking a talented lawyer to join our public markets legal and compliance team. This is a unique opportunity to support the largest Canadian investor in global public markets. Reporting to the Managing Director that leads the public markets legal and compliance team and located in Toronto, the successful candidate will join a dynamic team of legal and compliance professionals who engage directly with the business units that invest in the public markets. Role-Specific Accountabilities:
  • Advise on regulatory and compliance matters related to public market and securities related matters, including fund investing
  • Transactional and advisory work related to public market trading activities across a broad range of asset classes, jurisdictions, and product types
  • Providing advice to global trading and investment groups, and engaging and managing external counsel globally
  • Regulatory monitoring to identify and interpret new and proposed regulatory rules that impact public market trading and investment activities
  • Coordination and providence guidance in relation to CPP Investments\xe2\x80\x99 securities filings globally, with support from the Compliance Monitoring team, regional members of the CPP Investments legal and compliance team and external counsel
  • Manage the negotiation of OTC trading documentation (e.g., ISDAs, GMRAs, GMSLAs), including maintaining trading documentation inventory
  • Engage with internal stakeholders including traders, investment professionals, tax, investment risk and operations and external counsel in connection with supporting traders and investment deal teams on both deal-specific and institutional-level matters
Qualifications
  • LL.B./LL.M/JD or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in securities law gained at a major law firm or sophisticated in-house corporate legal department. Experience related to capital markets regulatory and/or fund investments practice will be considered an asset.
  • MBA, CFA, CA, and/or other relevant industry designations are a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to work cooperatively with many different stakeholders with varying perspectives, and ability to manage external counsel
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing projects
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility and adaptability, including off-hours support relating to transactions, international offices, and projects
  • Professional conduct reflecting the quality of work, demeanor, ethical values, and high standards of CPP Investments
