Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for planning and managing health & safety activities . He/she supervises a team working mainly on prevention and management of disability and health and safety files. In this capacity, he/she collaborates in the department's strategic planning and sees to the establishment of orientations, objectives and programs in health & safety and disability. He/she implements measures to optimize the performance of the various activities of his/her work team.

Responsibilities

  • Proposes and implements prevention strategies and programs, thereby contributing to the implementation of a culture based on integrated health & safety management. Defines occupational health and safety orientations, policies and directives and develops and implements processes, methods and procedures to improve health & safety performance.
  • Manages the team of Health & Safety Advisors/Experts;
  • Participate in the occupational health and safety orientation committees as provided for in the Canada Labour Code Part 2 and ensure that the actions identified by the various committees are followed up;
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in the area of health & safety, both at the provincial and federal levels;
  • Support managers in the application of policies and procedures and supervise inspections and accident investigations and provide the necessary expertise to identify and implement prevention solutions.
  • Oversee training activities and various health & safety promotion activities.
  • Oversee incident and accident investigations to ensure that root cause analysis is conducted to prevent recurrence and improve programs;
  • Participate in the establishment and recommendation of directions, objectives and programs with respect to his/her area of expertise.
  • Support the team with the management of difficult cases.
  • Respond upfront to the needs of managers and employees and resolve complaints that may be brought to his/her attention.
  • Evaluate and recommend the human, material and financial resources required for the smooth running of the activities for which he/she is responsible and manage the budgets made available.
  • Submit detailed reports and may be called upon to make presentations on the activities for which he/she is responsible.
  • Work in close collaboration with the team of human resources business partners and labour relations advisors.
Requirements
  • University degree in labour relations or equivalent;
  • Certificate or Master's degree in health and safety, an asset;
  • Twenty (20) years of relevant experience;
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canada Labour Code (an asset) and the new provisions of the LSST.
  • Knowledge of Canadian aviation regulations (an asset);
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Creativity in the completion of assignments;
  • Teamwork approach;
  • Results oriented,
  • Demonstrate a high degree of autonomy and resourcefulness;
  • Rigor and very good organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate great adaptability in the various mandates entrusted;
  • Bilingualism in French and English is essential;
