About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Health & Safety (H&S), this position is accountable for providing technical and functional leadership in Health & Safety for Well Delivery projects across Western Canada. Additionally, the Manager, H&S will champion the implementation of Health & Safety processes that are aligned with Cenovus\xe2\x80\x99s Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS) and ensure compliance to Occupational Health & Safety legislation and industry standards for all aspects of H&S and Well Delivery. The successful candidate will also facilitate the implementation of leading H&S programs throughout field operations and will thrive in a supportive, solutions-focused setting to ensure excellence.

This is an office position based at our office in downtown Calgary, Alberta. Regular travel up to 30% is required to stay connected with remote teams and assets.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Sr Manager and senior Well Delivery leadership team to establish and deliver on yearly strategic goals and objectives.

Provide leadership and development of Health & Safety Advisors that support the Well Delivery project team.

Collaborate within the organization to share best practices, lessons learned and continuously improve the company performance.

Lead Health & Safety culture by example and provide leadership, feedback, and assistance to others. Role model a proactive approach to continuously improving health and safety performance.

Foster collaboration between the Deployed H&S team and the Central H&S team, leveraging the multi-disciplinary support as a conduit for communication.

Facilitate and shape the field strategies and implementation tactics required to support Safe Work performance.

Manage performance and development of the Health & Safety direct reports through timely feedback and regular performance conversations.

Communicate relevant and timely Health & Safety information to the right stakeholders and understand the Health & Safety strengths and weaknesses of the business and program. Liaise with and influence personnel on a continuing basis with regards to Health & Safety.

Understand and act on business needs and opportunities. Provide specialist support and assist with customer relationships and demonstration of the Cenovus value add.

Stay abreast of emerging Health & Safety issues and legislation. Keep the respective assets updated with relevant requirements and assist with compliance to Health & Safety legislation.

Provides Health & Safety functional mentorship and guidance to Health & Safety personnel and to the Business.

Be present in the field to understand execution firsthand.

Qualifications:

Must be willing to work in the office in downtown, Calgary.

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Minimum of 10+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the Health & Safety (H&S) function or Operations-based leadership; experience specific to oil & gas is preferred.

Completion of a related bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree, diploma or certificate (i.e. Bachelor of Engineering, Geology, Environmental Health & Safety, CRSP or other H&S designations).

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Extensive technical, practical and leadership experience including expertise in strategic planning and experience in driving industry H&S performance.

Proven commitment to health & safety with a passion to drive continuous improvement.

Demonstrated ability to partner with stakeholders with a strong focus on client service.

Previous experience with, or exposure to, the development and implementation of safety standards or practices.

Working knowledge of applicable H&S regulations, practices, and training.

Strong working knowledge of OH&S legislation and industry standards.
