Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Health & Fitness Programs leads a team of fitness professionals in providing exemplary service to all Wellness Institute members in delivering high quality fitness and training services that help members and non-members achieve their health and fitness goals. The Manager ensures that new members are properly integrated so they can exercise effectively and safely, are informed about all the program offerings and services and are advised on health and fitness programs and services that would best meet their needs and goals. The Manager oversees and manages the design, development and implementation of all group fitness programming, nutrition counseling, specialty health and fitness programming, personal training, group training and kids' health and wellness programs. The Manager is responsible for achieving or exceeding departmental budget expectations and for ensuring that all fitness equipment is properly maintained, operational and safe.

Experience

  • 3 years' experience developing, implementing and managing group fitness programs, personal training and wellness programs.
  • 5 years' experience managing and developing professional exercise staff.
  • 3 years' experience translating strategy into executable initiatives and action plans that drive results.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology required.
  • Post-graduate training in Recreation and Sport is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Certified Exercise Professional designation through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) or Clinical Exercise Physiologist or Clinical Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM).
Qualifications and Skills
  • Substantial medical fitness industry knowledge (keeps current with industry trends, literature).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand member/client is #1.
  • Ability to be proactive and work autonomously.
  • Effective delegation and follow-up skills.
  • Intermediate to expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Passion for fitness.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work safely in a computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10kg.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions are common - must be able to schedule dedicated and focused time for planning and concentrating.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and use of personal motor vehicle for travel within the province.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
