The Opportunity
Reporting into the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President Corporate Services, the Manager, Finance Airport Operations is responsible for the maintenance and application of WAA\xe2\x80\x99s financial controls, preparation and consolidation of WAA\xe2\x80\x99s financial statements, budgeting and forecasting of operating expenses within operational groups and management of the day-to-day functions of the Airport Operations Finance Department. The incumbent is responsible for the management oversight and guidance of the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable employees in the YWG and WAA corporate entities.

This role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with relevant WAA stakeholders and has discretionary decision-making authority with regard to matters of operational importance to WAA. This role provides input, guidance, advice, strategic direction, fiscal and resource planning to WAA. As part of the WAA leadership team this individual participates in the overall management and strategic planning processes of WAA. This incumbent is the primary liaison with the external auditors and implements their recommendations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual corporate entity and consolidated financial statements and related reports.
  • Review monthly variances in comparison to budget and forecast.
  • Responsible for the accurate recording of fixed assets in the financial system including additions, disposals, depreciation, etc.
  • Ensure payroll information is successfully transferred to the financial system in a timely manner.
  • Oversee daily financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger transactions.
  • Manage the corporate credit card portfolio, investigating unusual transactions and supporting cardholders with online expense reporting.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key decision makers in client/tenant organizations to foster good working relationships and an understanding of airport issues.
  • Has the authority to provide training, development and coaching for direct employees. Has significant input into hiring decisions for the department in conjunction with Manager, Corporate Finance.
  • Is responsible for setting performance expectations, objectives, goals and timelines for performance compliance. Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Responsible for the financial management of the department including preparation of the finance departmental budget and ongoing monthly monitoring of costs.
  • Manage short-term cash flow for the organization by forecasting cash inflows and outflows including payment runs, debt payments, etc.
  • Ensuring there are proper internal controls within the finance department and that the controls are operating effectively (i.e. review of monthly/quarter account reconciliations, etc).
  • Responsible for the accurate completion and filing of tax returns including GST, PST, foreign withholding tax and corporate income tax returns.
Selection Criteria include:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Completion of Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA, CGA)
  • Four years (minimum) of senior accounting or finance experience
  • Budgeting and cost management skills.
  • Superior oral and written communications skills.
  • Previous management experience, experience in a unionized environment would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional business partners to achieve results.
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve goals and objectives in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to manage multiple initiatives with strong prioritization skills.
  • Strong financial accounting skills (knowledge of IFRS) and how it pertains to the organization
  • Fundamental understanding of tax laws and how they pertain to the organization
  • Analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Organized and detail oriented with good time management skills, with ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Technical aptitude and ability to learn and maximize the use of new software programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to sort and analyze large volumes of data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and experience drafting presentations.
