Job Title Manager, Environmental & Social Risk



What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Director, Environmental & Social Risk, you will play a key role in the management and mitigation of environmental and social (E&S) risks at RBC. In this role you will work alongside other environmental and social professionals to provide advice and support to account managers across RBC\xe2\x80\x99s lines of business, credit adjudicators and risk managers in Group Risk Management (GRM), and in some cases, current and prospective RBC clients. You will also assist in the implementation of RBC\xe2\x80\x99s E&S risk policies and procedures, and as part of a team, work to keep RBC informed of emerging E&S issues that could lead to credit, reputational or legal risk.

Note: This is not a People Manager role

What will you do?

  • Advise business units and GRM colleagues on E&S risk issues that may represent risk to RBC.
  • Evaluate E&S risk inherent and residual in individual and/or syndicated credit transactions, and advise account and risk managers on structuring transactions to minimize E&S risk.
  • Support the E&S risk team in review of documentation related to Equator Principles transactions
  • Help to develop and deliver training for account managers and GRM colleagues relating to E&S issues and risk management
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of systems to measure, monitor, and report on E&S risk management across RBC\xe2\x80\x99s businesses.
  • Work as part of the broader E&S Risk team to align and coordinate management and monitoring of E&S Risk across environmental (including climate) and social topics
  • Manage and track relevant environmental data in order to identify trends, resource forecasting, training opportunities and other key metrics.
What do you need to succeed?

Must-Haves:
  • Relevant degree in science or engineering (environmental, geohydrology, geology, chemical etc.)
  • At least 7years of related experience in environmental social assessment and/or environmental and social impact assessment, environmental site assessment and/or environmental and human health risk assessment or E&S risk management experience
  • Advanced analytical thinking and ability to quickly adapt mindset
  • Strong people skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Intellectual curiosity, global and strategic mindset with ability to think conceptually
Nice-to-Haves:
  • Understanding of credit adjudication, banking and commercial lending and/or risk management in the financial industry
  • Relevant professional designation in science or engineering.
  • Project management experience
  • Work experience relating to, and/or strong understanding of the Equator Principles
  • Risk Assessment and/or Brownfield redevelopment experience
  • Ability to read and write French
  • Working knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessments, Biodiversity, and Social risks
