Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Pollution Control/Deputy City Engineer, this position will be responsible for: Managing the Environmental Compliance Coordinator, policies, procedures and activities.
Provide direct assistance and technical support on corporate environmental matters to all City departments, as well as provide and facilitate environmental education and awareness across the Corporation, its agencies, and the community.
Facilitate environmental monitoring programs such as sewer use by-law enforcement, watershed monitoring, laboratory management, closed landfill monitoring and spills response which provides direct protection for the health of the community and its watersheds.
Oversee remedial measures and/or maintenance for corrective actions, as required.
Act as a municipal representative on the Essex Region Source Water Protection Committee to help identify and mitigate health risks to the public from threats to the water supply.
Monitor and maintain municipal landfills.
Responsible for the annual MECP and ECCC reporting for both Plants and Retention Treatment Basin.
Will prepare annual budgetary items; supervise associated staff, conduct performance appraisals, training and participation in staff development, recruitment, disciplinary matters and the ongoing review of employee lost time.
Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation's Health and Safety Program.
Will perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:

Must have a University Degree in Sciences or Chemistry and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in laboratory techniques, industrial waste control and unit process inspection, sampling procedures, installation and use of monitoring equipment
