UNIT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:




The Career and Professional Development (CPD) team at the DeGroote School of Business (DSB) is committed to delivering innovative, student-centered services across three core functions: career education, employer engagement, and work-integrated learning (WIL). The CPD team supports students across all business programs by equipping them with the tools, experiences, and connections needed to thrive in a competitive job market. Making up the CPD team are three distinct units: Career Education - graduate programs, Career Education - undergraduate programs and Employer Relations. These units work collaboratively to ensure integrated service delivery and to achieve shared success metrics. The Employer Relations team plays a specialized and strategic role in advancing the Faculty's employer engagement efforts. Focused on building and sustaining high-impact relationships with a diverse range of employers and alumni, the team ensures that DeGroote students have access to meaningful employment and experiential learning opportunities that align with their academic and career goals. The team works to elevate the external profile of DeGroote by championing its brand and showcasing the talent and potential of its students and leads the ongoing development and optimization of technology to enhance the employer experience within the DeGroote community.


This position will provide daily leadership to a team of employment and administrative professionals and will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic employer development plans ensuring employment objectives across all programs at DeGroote. This position will deliver services and programs needed for the successful engage employer partners and alumni in recruiting and hiring DeGroote students and to raise the profile externally of DeGroote. This position will develop programs/activities related to experiential learning opportunities, work-integrated learning and career pathways. This position is also responsible for the ongoing development/enhancement of software applications to support and enhance the employer journey at DeGroote.


This position will be vital in the development of an intentional operational strategy that supports accreditation and reporting requirements, including the fulfilment of assurance of learning outcomes, with an emphasis on career and work-integrated learning outcomes.

JOB SUMMARY:




This position will support the Sr. Manager, Career & Professional Development, to execute a strategy focusing on enhancing all Faculty of Business students' reputation and employability. This position is responsible for researching market trends, best practices in service delivery, and program assessment, including quantitative and qualitative measures.

PURPOSE AND KEY FUNCTIONS:



Strategic Planning/Leadership:



Support an employment strategy with Sr. Manager, Career & Professional Development and Manager, Career Education to address areas including final year recruitment, job development, alumni and employer relationship/engagement, a transition to work, skills development (employability skills based on Conference Board of Canada), faculty collaborations, professional association partnerships. Develop plans under the guidance of the Sr. Manager, Career & Professional Development to ensure events, communication and strategies are aligned, promoted and coordinated. Respond to the dynamic and changing needs of the new workplace, employer expectations and market conditions. Research and scan current employment trends to identify opportunities and job gaps and the impact of social media and technology in the labour market

Develop and implement an annual plan that includes strategic initiatives, new program/events, metrics & benchmarking identifiers, communications & marketing campaigns and resourcing needs. Prepare and monitor the budget for programs/activities related to areas of responsibility. Explores opportunities for revenue generation (conferences/events, employer sponsorships). Demonstrate the DeGroote School of Business's commitment to inclusivity and diversity by ensuring that the specific needs of our various groups of students (undergraduates, graduates, masters) and equity serving groups are met. Gather, compile, and analyze the information required to develop recommendations on program changes and compliance with government legislation and policies and ensure that program guidelines align with University regulations ad updated to reflect the competitive landscape and changing employment market conditions. Represents Career & Professional Development as a member of the McMaster University Employer Engagement Committee Participate as a departmental representative with CEWIL, CACEE and EWO professional committees. Develop strategic employer development plans ensuring employment objectives and target demographics are clearly defined Conduct interviews and focus groups with students, professionals, and employers to study the effectiveness of employment program initiatives Coordinate and schedule promotional events such as employer information events, career fairs, and other industry programming Develop and deliver presentations at conferences and workshops Write a variety of documents such as correspondence, reports, and proposals Research, identify, implement and marketing and social media initiatives in collaboration with Faculty of Business communications and marketing team Provide advice on market potential of new programs and strategies to promote engagement

Attend and support key employer events and activities to demonstrate a commitment to employer partnerships and foster new relationships for future employment. Leads data gathering and reporting initiatives within CPD for internal and external reporting (QS ranking, AACSB reporting, SMAs)

Update and maintain a database of employer contacts to support various activities such as querying past activities, corresponding with and tracking leads and new partners. Ongoing review of the competitive business school career services landscape to develop strategies and plans to inform DeGroote's strategic direction.

Work-Integrated Learning Work Opportunities:



Expand opportunities for work-integrated learning for all students in to increase students' work experience, develop work skills, and ease their employment transition. Educate students on skills developed. Explore funding/subsidy available through various funding sources to facilitate and develop new internships (ex. HRDC, Industry MITACS, Ministry and Federal Government), diversity hiring and global work experiences for students.

Systems Development:



Development of system functionality and infrastructure related to the delivery and support of WIL and on-campus recruitment. These systems include OSCARplus (powered by Orbis Communications) and 12Twenty.

Work collaboratively with IT Department and Manager of Technology (Student Affairs) to address security, authentication, budget, system functionality and infrastructure related to delivery software.

Human Resources Management:



Responsible for the recruitment, supervision and performance management of up to 9 full-time continuing staff and up to 20 student staff and volunteers (peer leaders) in the employment areas

Utilize Peoplesoft Mosiac system to post for new hires, update all human resources and payroll procedures.

Develop and implement an annual plan that includes strategic initiatives, new program/events, metrics & benchmarking identifiers and resourcing needs.

Prepare and monitor the budget for programs/activities related to areas of responsibility.

Explores opportunities for revenue generation (conferences/events, employer sponsorships).

SUPERVISION:




Ongoing responsibility for supervising up to 9 employees at one time, and up to 30 casual employees
