Reporting to the Executive Director, Advancement Services, the incumbent provides leadership and direction to the Donor Engagement and Stewardship unit. Determine the best strategies for effective stewardship of donors, and to advise on donor recognition events and activities. The incumbent will work with University Advancement leadership and staff, key volunteer leaders, and other areas across campus to implement customized stewardship plans for primary and major gift donors. They will contribute to donor-centric, team-based structures through interactions with internal and external stakeholders to support relationship development and prospect management. The incumbent develops and recommends strategies and policies for a comprehensive donor cultivation, recognition and stewardship program.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and innovation to develop, design, and implement, a comprehensive integrated plan for custom donor reporting, gift announcements, donor recognition and donor acknowledgements to build donor trust through consistent, strategic and meaningful contact.
  • Manage, execute and evaluate all donor engagement programs, processes and systems related to custom donor reporting, gift announcements, donor recognition and donor acknowledgements.
  • Direct university acknowledgment processes, oversee major and primary gift donor reporting, and establish and manage information tracking processes following internal guidelines.
  • Oversee a system for reserving and tracking new and existing naming opportunities aligned with approved fundraising priorities and across the university
  • Develop stewardship standards for UA and work with Advancement Services to establish data recording practices. Analyze effectiveness of stewardship engagement to evaluate outcomes and identify changes to increase engagement/cultivation of donors
  • Plan, coordinate and manage donor recognition events and other forms of recognition in a timely fashion to ensure appropriate stewardship of donations in alignment with UA's established naming and announcement guidelines.
  • Analyze donor engagement support for internal and external stakeholders and lead recommendations for improved service, workflow, and outcomes measurement
  • Supervise, hire, coach, support, train, and evaluate staff to meet department needs and goals. Assign work projects to Donor Engagement and Stewardship staff.
  • Develop and oversee the drafting of donor gift agreements and amendments to ensure documented purpose and terms adhere to established university policies while reflecting donor intent.
  • Responsible for monitoring compliance with donor gift agreement guidelines and ensure stewardship obligations are met.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and over seven years of related experience in donor engagement and dealing directly with donors with at least two years in a managerial role.
  • Solid knowledge of fundraising principals and an in-depth understanding of best practices in donor stewardship and engagement, including analysis, assessment and evaluation.
  • Knowledge and experience of the University and of higher education an asset.
  • Excellent (level 5) spoken and written English and very good (level 4) spoken and written French.
  • Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Superior interpersonal communications skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse audience
  • Strong planning skills with the ability to identify short and long-range goals of UA and contribute to effective and measurable execution of outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and produce reports
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple assignments with competing deadlines and manage a team that works in concert to produce high-quality programs.
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment
  • Strong working knowledge of supervisory principles with the ability to effectively manage and lead the Donor Engagement unit.
  • Service-oriented approach, personal initiative and creative thinking.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software and computer proficiency in a variety of software applications. Familiarity with fundraising databases an asset.
  • Perceptive, understands nuance, with ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
  • Possession of independent judgment, diplomacy and tact.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and the ability to work independently yet maintain a close connection with co-workers
  • Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, if required.
