At Jack.org, we work alongside a national network of young leaders to create communities that support youth mental health. Our network of 3,000 (and counting!) young people across Canada are as busy as ever, and our staff of 90 humans and 3 dogs are working just as hard.

Reporting into the Director, Program Quality & Design, the Manager, Design & Improvement (Equity-based) is a non-clinical role responsible for the oversight, planning and execution of the design and improvement of programs and activities for equity-deserving youth (e.g., Jack Talks for Indigenous Youth) in alignment with organizational goals. The manager makes recommendations for changes in programmatic plans and elements, and works in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the quality and impact of all activities within the portfolio.
The responsibilities of the position will include:

  • Support the Director on the vision and strategy for the portfolio, taking into account evaluation reports and metrics, recommending projects and changes that are up-to-date with the mental health needs of equity-deserving youth (e.g., Indigenous and Black youth) and equity design best practices, and aligned with Jack.org strategic goals.
  • In alignment with the Director, manage all aspects of the Annual Planning process associated with the D&I Equity-based portfolio, collaborating with other teams and departments to ensure equity-based projects are aligned with programmatic and organizational goals, and appropriately scoped and budgeted.
  • Oversee the delivery of annual plans for the D&I equity-based portfolio - leading and/or supporting the design and improvement of programmatic activities and materials, managing the team, ensuring appropriate engagement of internal and external stakeholders, reporting on D&I equity-based projects (e.g., progress, expenses, risks, metrics), approving day-to-day changes consistent with the annual plan, and escalating when needed.
  • Ensure high standards of quality on all equity-based projects and jack.org programs, working in collaboration with other teams - especially Design & Improvement ones - to support integration and achieve departmental goals.
  • Work alongside the Evaluation team on impact measurement for the portfolio, and monitor metrics to ensure outcomes and targets are being met.
  • Work closely with Operations and the Implementation teams to ensure technical aspects, implementation and delivery is in-step with design and improvement recommendations.
  • Work closely with Youth Engagement to ensure youth-voice, advice and participation is incorporated to design and improvement processes within the portfolio.
  • Provide guidance to the Partnership team to inform a partnership strategy for the portfolio and steward key partners and relationships to support goals.
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications teams on the production of resources for equity-based projects and alongside Implementation to inform a promotional strategy to ensure targets and goals are met.
  • Support reporting, fundraising and communication efforts providing up-to-date, accurate and clear information related to the portfolio and its projects.
  • Other responsibilities as determined/required from time to time.

Organizational Duties
  • Stay up to date with organizational policies (finance, travel, safety, accessibility, etc.) and ensure direct reports are aware of and adhere to them.
  • Coach and support the development of all direct reports, including onboarding new staff, ensuring workload is appropriate, building and fostering a strong team (culture, cohesion, celebration, etc.) and supporting their professional growth and opportunities. Oversee staff performance in meeting their goals through weekly check-ins, performance reviews and ongoing performance management.
  • Support change management efforts, including to optimize staffing structure to best serve our programs and organizational goals.
  • Other responsibilities as determined/required from time to time.

We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for someone who has:
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, development, and/or improvements of programs.
  • Track-record of successful managing of activities within the non-profit, youth mental health promotion, public health, and/or education sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and/or applying equity, diversity, inclusion principles to work and workplace.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team, well-developed leadership and coaching skills.
  • Strong strategic and innovative mindset combined with the ability to get things done with a team (doesn\'t just ask "How do we get this done?" - asks, "What is the BEST way to get this done?").
  • Ability to self-reflect and take responsibility for own learning, and to coach others in their own learning journeys.
  • Strong communication skills & high attention to detail.
  • Is very comfortable with ambiguity and competing demands/priorities and enjoys creating structure where none exist working well with minimal supervision.
  • Is both a driver and a collaborator: someone who gets things done and doesn\'t shy away from decision-making, but who also genuinely likes interacting with others and incorporating input from different members of the team into decision-making.

Other Considerations/ Assets:
  • Experience with Asana, Agile, and Design Thinking Methodologies grounded on equity principles
  • Non-profit; equity-based approaches and/or Youth Mental health knowledge
  • Experience with youth engagement, youth empowerment programming, co-designing programs with youth
  • Content/curriculum design experience
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Work proficiency in French

While the work involves supporting a network of youth in all provinces and territories, this position is at the Jack.org headquarters in downtown Toronto. Our staff works under a hybrid model, with the flexibility to work from home or the office. You may be required to go into the office occasionally, depending on your role and jack.org operational needs.
