Manager, Corporate Systems (ITS)

Job location: our office in Ottawa, Canada, We work in a hybrid model with expectation for this individual to work in the office with a minimum of 4 days a week.

About the team

Reporting to the Director of IT Services, the Manager, Corporate Systems, will be accountable for the success of the Systems Administration team and its objectives within the IT Services (ITS) department, which is under the umbrella of Corporate IT (CIT). The Manager, Corporate Systems will be an advocate for the CIT tech stack throughout Kinaxis, while ensuring our systems are robust, healthy, current, and fulfilling the needs of the business.

An exceptional leader and coach, the Manager, Corporate Systems will lead a global team of System Administrator professionals who design, build, maintain, and support our Cloud and on-prem solutions. A strategic and results-driven leader, the Manager, Corporate Systems will manage technology implementation from beginning to end, and will oversee needs assessments, technology selection, process improvement projects, and support other CIT teams all while ensuring compliance with IT General Controls.

What you will do

  • Manage and develop a team of Systems Administration professionals, providing exceptional coaching, guidance, and leadership.
  • Ensure the systems, infrastructure and applications within your portfolio are well managed (software updates are implemented, backlog, health checks and system monitoring, bug tracking/fixes, database health, end of life, decommission etc.).
  • Ensure ongoing portfolio projects and initiatives are properly planned, resourced, and delivered according to the agreed upon delivery roadmap, and collaborate with IT Business Partners and stakeholders when timing or scope changes occur.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of projects and initiatives, utilizing Agile methodology to effectively manage and prioritize backlogs.
  • Support and coordinate professional development, knowledge management, cross training and knowledge sharing to ensure primary and secondary coverage for all systems and applications thus increasing the versatility and succession management of the team.
  • Foster a partnership with other Corporate IT Teams (IT Business Partners, Service Desk, Application Lifecycle Management, Sec Ops, Application Excellence, Data Integration, Analytics & BI, IT Ops.) and business unit stakeholders / SMEs to build awareness of forthcoming new projects and solution deployments and ensure a full readiness state to support new systems as they are implemented (Go Live readiness checklists, integration plans, systems and application run books, security compliance readiness, infrastructure support requirements etc.)
  • Ensure that Change Management, Configuration Management, Project Life Cycle and ITIL processes & procedures are being followed and appropriate status/progress reporting is up to date for all portfolio initiatives so that a consistent approach to solution delivery is applied across the organization; communicate status and progress to senior leaders
  • Identify potential problems or opportunities for improvement and proactively recommend solutions
  • In partnership with stakeholders across Corporate IT, ensure a complete systems and application knowledge base is available to internal and external c
  • Participate and collaborate in the planning, resourcing, estimating, and scoping of new project initiatives and identify and raise any issues, changes or conflicts which could have an impact on workload, customer satisfaction or service levels to the IT Management team.
Technologies we use
  • VMware-based, VDI, Windows Server (2008 - 2019), Microsoft Active Directory 2008/2012/2016, VMware Center 6.X, Dell and HP server experience, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Microsoft tools and applications (SharePoint, Azure portals and Microsoft Partner Center, Power Bi, O365, etc.)
  • Veeam backup systems, backup schedules, and recovery
  • Windows, Mac, and Linux OS (Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS),
  • SAN/NAS: HDS, Netapp, TrueNas and Open-source solutions
  • Cisco networking, basic routing, TCP ports, and network services, including SSH, LDAP, SFTP, and HTTP (S)
What we are looking for
  • 7+ years of functional/professional experience in systems administration, data center operations project management, testing and/or support
  • Bachelor\'s degree in information technology, computer science, management information systems (MIS), management or in a related area or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading global technical teams
  • 5+ years of experience using various tools to proactively monitor all aspects of the IT infrastructure such as Site 24/7, Service Now, Logic Monitor, etc.
  • Experience managing medium to large IT infrastructure environments
  • Project management and change management knowledge and experience, project management certification is an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cloud technologies, datacenter operations, object-oriented, and web-based systems, applications, environments, and relevant tools/technology.
  • Proven Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) & agile practices
  • Exceptional communicator and collaborator
  • Proven experience leading technology implementation through all stages
  • Exceptional time management skills: ability to prioritize based on business requirements and thrives in a fast-paced environment
