The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Copper Strategy Manager to join our Strategy and Business Development team in Toronto. This is a permanent position.

This position reports to the Head of Strategy & Transformation Business Development and is accountable for the development and management of Vale Base Metals integrated Copper strategy:

• Defining and integrating all elements of Vale Base Metals' strategic global production flowsheet (encompassing the North Atlantic, South Atlantic, and Asia Pacific regions)
• Guide a team of strategy analysts that develops the narrative and pathway for strategic projects that are linked to areas including (but not limited to) exploration, business development and joint ventures, marketing, operations, projects, studies, health, safety, environment and risk, environmental social and governance commitments and any other key central initiatives within Vale's Copper Business Global
• The team is accountable for establishing the governance to develop, maintain and sustain the strategic plans that link to Vale Global's strategic flowsheet which includes leading data gathering, interpretation, and analysis regarding market, technological, economic, and partner development
• Ongoing engagement is required with Base Metals partners and leadership, ensuring a high degree of debate and alignment; communicate the strategy and its relationship to the different areas to clarify the actions needed to implement within the areas of responsibility
• Key interfaces include (but are not limited to) Vale Strategic Planning (Brazil), Long term Planning and Analysis, Business Development, Integrated Business Planning, Transformation Office, Finance (Base Metals), Exploration, Marketing, Technology & Engineering, Enterprise Risk, Sustainability, Human Resources, Operational areas, and Corporate Affairs

Additionally, in this position you will:

• Guide the development of the Vale Base Metals Copper Strategy and all related elements
• Coordinate activities to conduct reviews of the business plan, assuring the prioritization of initiatives and projects in the plan to align with the Business' Strategy; including improved clarity around organizational accountabilities.
• Implement what-if value optimization analysis. Coordinate the assessment of options to improve the value of the portfolio. Including the review of each asset inside the portfolio and external opportunities to assess their fit within the Base Metals
• Perform deep-dives and scenario analysis of critical business matters, providing a view on the impact of external factors in the overall business. Link changes in the global business environment with the business plans.
• Monitor key aspects of the Copper markets, competitors, etc., providing upfront analysis on potential impacts to the Vale Base Metals positioning in these industries.

About You

Education:

• Undergraduate degree is required
• Tertiary qualified
• MBA designation is preferred

Experience:

• 11 to 15 years of experience

Skills and Experience:

• Deep technical experience in the mining sector and Base Metals markets
• Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives, prioritizing influence rather than authority, to lead cross functional teams; Leads the development of an open and transparent culture where people are encouraged to share their views and collaborate across silos.
