Job Overview
The Construction - Health and Safety Manager is both an on-site leader and a strategic partner, driving safety excellence across Cressey's construction projects. This role ensures health and safety standards are met daily through inspections, orientations, and training, while also supporting broader organizational programs, initiatives, and compliance efforts. Working closely with Site Superintendents, Project Managers, and the VP of Construction, the ideal candidate brings hands-on onsite experience and a deep understanding of how to build a proactive safety culture. They are someone who leads by example, inspires others to do the same, and is passionate about setting the standard for health and safety programs in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
Onsite Health & Safety
Monitor daily health and safety compliance of workers, contractors, and subcontractors on active construction sites.
Conduct site-specific safety orientations for all new workers and visitors.
Facilitate daily/weekly toolbox talks and participate in site planning meetings.
Perform regular site inspections and hazard assessments, identifying and mitigating risks in real time.
Administer First Aid and maintain required documentation.
Coordinate emergency response planning, including mock drills and rescue plans.
Maintain up-to-date site safety documentation, including contractor certifications, incident reports, and equipment records.
Proactively identify hazards and develop corrective actions to maintain safe, compliant job sites.
Program Leadership & Compliance
Provide guidance to site leadership and project teams on safety standards, policies, and legislative compliance.
Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Cressey's health and safety programs.
Conduct and oversee incident investigations, risk assessments, and root cause analyses.
Lead or participate in health and safety audits across multiple sites, ensuring consistency and quality.
Monitor compliance with WorkSafeBC and other applicable regulations, recommending improvements as needed.
Stay current on industry safety trends, regulatory updates, and best practices.
Mentor and coach CSOs and site personnel to strengthen internal safety capacity.
Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to site and executive leadership on key health and safety initiatives and performance.
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of experience within an on-site Construction Safety role.
Construction Safety Officer and Occupational First Aid Level 2. NCSO and OFA 2 with transport endorsement may be considered.
Strong working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and applicable provincial legislation.
Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations and risk assessments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
Strong organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Physical ability to work on active construction sites (lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs, etc.).
A collaborative, hands-on leader who models safety-first values.
Work Conditions are as follows
Pay: Starting from $30.00 per hour
Full time: 40 hours per week
Working location: White Rock, BC and Others.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
