Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:




Responsible for planning, creating, developing, implementing and managing of all corporate, and stakeholder communications for the University. The position is also responsible for planning and assisting in early identification and strategic analysis of issues and sensitive media requests, coordinates responses and actions, and maintains a regularly updated issues calendar and database that tracks requests, messaging and background for effective administration of corporate communications function.

Qualifications:




The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

Knowledge of communications, public relations, marketing, and social media processes Knowledge of university's strategic priorities and goals as well as policies and procedures Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity Experience navigating crisis and issues management processes, institutional communications and leading project teams, with strong management and leadership skills Demonstrated experience in a comparable public-sector institution operating within a unionized environment is preferred Superior writing, research, interview and communication skills. Knowledge of Canadian Press standards Ability to work through conflicting leadership opinions on positioning projects/issues in order to arrive at a diplomatic resolution Demonstrated ability to proactively engage media Familiarity and aptitude with technologies and social media tools that support the communications profession Knowledge of today's media landscape

Education and Experience:




The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field Minimum of seven years of previous progressive Communications experience in a complex organization At least three years leading a communication program and team
