The Manager, Clinical Trials and Clinical Research is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations and functions of the Clinical Trials Unit(s) (CTU) and Clinical Research Program. Working with the Regional Medical Leader, Clinical Trials and Clinical Research Leaders, the position provides leadership and direction in establishing goals and operational plans for the unit. The Manager provides coordination of clinical trials\research activities and management of clinical trials\research business facilitating the design, implementation, promotion and monitoring of grant and donor funded clinical research projects.

What you'll do

  • Provide leadership to staff through collaborative coaching, guidance and modeling key behaviour, identifying staffing needs, professional development, managing performance, and providing supervision and direction to effectively and efficiently deliver services to meet team goals and objectives of the research business units and other clinical research activities.
  • Set direction for the unit to ensure effective achievement of scientific/business objectives and to align to the BC Cancer's research vision.
  • Direct, coordinate and supervise all aspects of business and regulatory matters, and facilities administration as they relate to clinical research activities by working with the staff to meet targets.
  • Coordinate and manage the departmental operating budget and specific study/project budgets by monitoring budget performance, financial resources, workload and financial forecasting to ensure trials and research projects meet the expected financial performance.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new projects by developing new material, researching and sourcing equipment and recommending staffing and resource requirements.
  • Analyze requirements and implement written policies and procedures for quality management initiatives and Standard Operating Procedures for research operations. Develop, implement and maintain effective methodologies and standards for efficient management of clinical investigation studies in accordance with national and international standards. Ensure quality assurance and improvement programs for the unit as required by clinical trials and clinical research, regulatory and accreditation standards.
What you bring
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a health discipline or related field such as Radiation Therapy, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Care Administration or Business Administration.
  • Seven (7) years of recent, related experience in an administrative position related to operations or management and leadership positions involving the development, implementation and evaluation of complex service delivery systems, preferably in an oncology and or clinical trials environment.

  • Strong negotiation, project management, budgeting and financial analysis, and grant writing and publication skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, leadership ability and strength in collaboration.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $92,720 - $133,286. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
