Your Opportunity:

The Unit Manager will provide leadership and direct oversight (administrative and clinical) to the staff working within Adult Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit 48, Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Team, Electroconvulsive Therapy Clinic, and the Mental Health Day Hospital at Rockyview General Hospital. The Unit Manager will use evidence informed practices and a continuous quality improvement approach to program development, implementation and service delivery. Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with physicians, other health care providers and program areas. Facilitate seamless and continuous care. Work within an electronic health record environment and be part of service preparation for the planned implementation of a provincial clinical information system. Provide programming and service delivery based on the Addiction and Mental Health Principles of Care within Adult Inpatients to support individuals presenting with health concerns related to addiction, mental health, and concurrent disorders. Work with program leaders to translate strategic priorities set out by the provincial and zone-based Addiction and Mental Health Services. Have an understanding of expenditures and cost drivers that have an impact on the program. Have signing authority required to facilitate daily operations. Ensure that patient/client/staff safety is a high priority. Promote and maintain a healthy work environment. Demonstrate leadership skills with human resource functions including recruitment, coaching, clinical supervision, competency development, scheduling, performance appraisal and management within a unionized environment.

Description:

Responsible for the daily operations and supervision of professional nursing practice, allied health, and support staff for an inpatient mental health unit (22 beds), Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Team, Electroconvulsive Therapy Clinic, and Mental Health Day Hospital program, this position provides frontline leadership to support daily clinical and operational business. The Unit Manager participates in implementing and maintaining standards of practice, scheduling/rotation/payroll management, purchasing and supply management, and human resource management. This position reports directly to the Program Manager of Adult Addiction and Mental Health Services at Rockyview General Hospital and accountabilities include providing daily leadership support and effective decision making to ensure quality patient care and outcomes that align with AHS policies, procedures, objectives and priorities. The role is accountable for high quality, high value clinical performance and safe clinical outcomes emanating from effective enactment of collaborative care and appropriate scope of practice in clinical operations. Some of the outcomes of interest include: patient- and family-centered care, high performing teams, quality management processes, collaborative practice including all health/support disciplines and safe care/work environments. Through the clinical leadership, mentoring, coaching and performance management of staff, the Unit Manager achieves high quality, safe patient care that promotes a positive patient experience. This role is responsible to coach team members to achieve comprehensive and integrated care planning, promote the development of clinical practice quality improvements, implement evidence-based practice and critically assess, evaluate, anticipate and address risks to patient and staff safety. Resource utilization will be relevant, efficient and effective.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor\'s degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized institution. Current, unrestricted registration with relevant professional association. Acute care inpatient management or leadership experience required in the last 5 years. 4 years current relevant clinical experience in healthcare is required in the last 5 years. Previous Mental Health experience; a combination of experience in inpatient, emergency and community mental health. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and lead multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in clinical supervision and performance management including broad knowledge of a variety of treatment modalities and of the mental health continuum of care. Current CPR certification required. Active NVCI certification. Demonstrated proficiency in change management techniques and processes. Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education is essential. Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated leadership and competency in the LEADS framework: leading self, engaging others, achieving results, building relationships/ coalitions and championing system change. Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written). Excellent analytical, organizational, planning, coaching, evaluating skills. Ability to work collaboratively with front-line department staff, patients and families, and other internal and external stakeholders and leaders. Excellent conflict management and resolution skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and complete work in a timely manner. Ability to adapt to a continuously changing and evolving work environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred. Master\'s degree in a relevant health field preferred. Tier 1 and 2 training in Collaborative Problem Solving an asset. Community Mental Health experience an asset. Involvement in on-going leadership learning and self-development an asset. Experience in staff scheduling (ESP program) is an asset.
