Your Opportunity:
The Manager, School Health & Wellness Promotion (SHWP) is a key leadership role in Promoting Health, Provincial Population and Public Health, and reports directly to the Director, Healthy Children and Families. This position is provincial in scope and accountable for: making key decisions and providing direct leadership in establishing and contributing to the goals and activities of SHWP, Healthy Children and Families and Promoting Health; providing direction, leadership, and organization over the activities of the SHWP program in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services; collaborating with teams across Healthy Children and Families, as well as Promoting Health, and leads the strategy and implementation of comprehensive school health (CSH) as a provincial initiative, including integration opportunities within and external to Healthy Children and Families; providing leadership for the expansion of the CSH initiative into PPPH's strategic priority of Healthy Settings Platform-Schools, and provide support for other Healthy Settings Platforms as needed; providing strategic leadership to SHWP program and provincial initiatives in alignment with resources and identified priorities from internal and external partners; identifying areas requiring evaluation, developing evaluation plans and logic models as needed; and developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key partners within and external to AHS, including government ministries, school authorities and others as appropriate. Description:
As the SHWP Manager, you will develop a broad understanding of the risk and protective factors that influence healthy child development in various settings (childcare, school, and community) including physical health and social, emotional, and cognitive development. You will set priorities based on the assessed health trends related to child and youth health and lead a multidisciplinary provincial team in the identification and development of evidence-informed, population health promotion strategies to improve health outcomes in this population. You will maintain collaborative partnerships with both internal and external partners to affect policy change, leverage resources, increase capacity and ensure the planning of effective, coordinated, efficient province-wide core population health programs related to healthy children and youth. You will implement guidelines, strategies and frameworks with Health Promotion Facilitators and their partners. You will liaise with provincial and zone teams to develop relationships and leverage opportunities for collaboration. You will function as an expert content consultant to internal and external partners influencing the development and implementation of child and youth health programming across the province. You will plan, allocate, and manage physical, human, and fiscal resources for the SHWP team, and assess resource requirements to meet program delivery needs and priorities. You will provide management and oversight of the evaluation for child and youth health operational projects and initiatives. You will engage in knowledge development and exchange, evaluation, continuous quality improvement and innovation to continually evolve this area.

Masters degree required in health, health promotion, or related field.
A minimum of 5 years in a leadership and program planning role, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Demonstrated knowledge management skills.
Demonstrated literature review skills.
Demonstrated evaluation skills.
A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.
Progressive leadership experience in a health environment, including 3-5 years experience in a management role in reproductive, early childhood, and child and youth health and/or population health promotion. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.

Demonstrated ability to engage key partners and stakeholders in change management process, understand the impact on both internal and external stakeholders and manage risks and benefits accordingly.
Ability to manage human, financial, and physical resources within an operating environment.
Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
Ability to plan, organize and manage short- and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results.
Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships, with public agencies, government, committees and other partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Registration with an appropriate Alberta Regulated Health Profession is preferred.
Healthcare experience is an asset.
Experience in school health promotion is an asset.
