Your Opportunity:

As part of the Provincial Medical Affairs Shared Services and Workforce Strategies portfolio, the Manager, Provincial Professional Billing Office (PPBO) leads the day-to-day operation of AHS's professional billing services. Professional billing includes primarily physician but also other independent professionals\' billing activities for clinical care to outside insurers such as the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP), Workers\' Compensation Board (WCB), other provincial plans, private plans and in some cases patient self-pay. The PPBO is a team of specialized physician billers who efficiently bill applicable insurance plans (primarily via Connect Care and its Resolute module) and business analysts/development staff. The PB Team works closely with an AHS IT team and maintains key relationships with a range of clients: paying physician groups; AHS-employed Nurse Practitioners and AHS NP management; AHS contracted Midwives and AHS Midwifery leadership.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Health Administration or a related field. Equivalency of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:

As Required.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master Degree in Business or Health Administration or Health Economics. Alberta FFS specific knowledge: how AHCIP Program, Workers\' Compensation Board, Federal programs and private insurer claims are submitted/paid and how fee schedules are structured. Conceptual understanding of how hospital billing/funding works for uninsured services as well as services provided to non-AHCIP enrolled patients. Reasonable understanding of accounting principles, audit controls and good practices.
