Who We Are:Heritage Park is Canada\'s largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region\'s past.Job Overview:Reporting to the Director, Fund Development, the Major Gifts Officer works closely with the team to ensure Heritage Park\'s fundraising goals are met by serving the philanthropic interests of Heritage Park\'s donors and prospective donors. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating meaningful relationships, soliciting and stewarding donors who are capable of making a gift >$5,000, including engaging new donors as well as growing current donor relationships. This position will manage relationships with approximately 100 major donors, with an annual fundraising goal of $750,000+.Fundraising
  • Develops and implements comprehensive plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts in assigned portfolio, including some individual, corporate, and charitable foundation donors
  • Assists with grant applications as appropriate
  • Prepares and delivers high quality proposals, presentations and other communications material to donors and prospective donors to maximize engagement opportunities
  • Analyzes and monitors progress toward established goals on an on-going basis, recommending strategic adjustments as required in order to meet targets
  • Provides external industry knowledge, monitors trends in the philanthropic environment and implements best practices as appropriate
  • Demonstrates high initiative in identifying and pursuing relevant opportunities for donors, including conducting and evaluating preliminary research to assess feasibility, suitability and capacity as potential donors
  • Helps build the culture of philanthropy internally by fostering a sense of purpose and engagement among employees, encouraging participation in charitable initiatives, and recognizing and celebrating acts of generosity and community involvement
Donor Relationship Management, Engagement and Recognition
  • Develops strategies to deepen relationships with donors, employing moves management techniques to ensure meaningful engagement and continued support
  • Attends networking events and social engagements to cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective and existing donors
  • Builds and maintains strong, personalized relationships with prospective/current donors through regular communication, meetings, and events
  • Leverages the Park and considers relationship-building efforts aimed at increasing donor involvement and investment
  • Develops and implements recognition and provides excellent stewardship to major donors, expressing gratitude and ensuring their continued engagement and support
  • Works closely with colleagues to provide donors with opportunities for meaningful engagement, such as intimate donor receptions, site visits, program updates, and volunteer opportunities

  • Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park\'s Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment policy

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in a relevant field (such as non-profit management, fundraising, communications, or business administration)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years\' experience in major gifts fundraising with a proven track record for closing gifts at the $25K+ level
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a donor-facing setting
  • Strong persuasive writing skills
  • Exceptional planning, organization, project management, prioritization, and time-management skills are required to manage multiple on-going projects simultaneously
  • Strategic, analytical, interpretive and evaluation skills are considered an asset
  • Strong administrative and technical skills, including experience in MS Office software, desktop publishing, website maintenance and donor management software - experience with Raiser\'s Edge a definite asset
  • Passion for the mission and values of Heritage Park.
  • Working knowledge of the Calgary and area giving community
  • A valid driver\'s license required with access to a vehicle for travel within the Calgary region
  • All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to go through Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
