FortWhyte Alive’s Major Gift Officer is a key member of the FortWhyte Alive (FWA) Development Team with responsibility to support the growth and sustainability of FWA revenue generating activities, including a direct focus on capital campaigns, major giving, planned giving, and donor relations. The Major Gift officer participates in the preparation of the department’s annual strategy and plan, including budget. As a strong writer, the Major Gift Officer helps to secure sources of income that includes challenging but achievable revenue goals for major gift individuals, corporate grants and capital donations which support FortWhyte Alive and the FortWhyte Foundation. This individual will report to the Director of Philanthropy and work closely with the President & CEO and Vice-President, and the rest of the Development team.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Philanthropy and the Development Team to create and implement a strategic fundraising plan for the Organization. Including major gifts, renewal projections, goal setting, timing of communications, stewardship/reporting and solicitations
  • Oversee the deliverable requirements for all corporate and major gifts for the Organization, including operational and capital streams
  • Provide support to the Vice President and the President & CEO for all capital campaigns while working directly with the volunteer Capital Campaign Cabinet
  • Support FWA’s major Capital Campaign by leading individual donor stewardship specific to current campaign (Buffalo Crossing), both quiet and public phases; develop recognition strategies, and ensure the outstanding stewardship of each donor
  • Collaborate with Management Team on research and proposal presentations with the goal of securing capital gifts including major individual and corporate donations
  • Monitor and report on revenue budget for major gift and capital fundraising activities, including grants
  • Work closely with the Communications Department and Development Team to ensure efficient donor communications online and in print. Produce targeted and individualized materials and tools to communicate regularly with donors, supporters, and prospects
  • Support the development of consistent and engaging materials including Case for Support, Business Case for FWA programs, and capital projects
  • Provide regular reporting to the President & CEO and Board of Trustees, on major gifts for operational and capital needs, and other reports as required
  • Analyze the current Planned Giving program and develop plan of action to steward and grow the FortWhyte Legacy Society
  • Work in collaboration with the Sponsorship and Events Coordinator to host the annual Legacy Society dinner
  • With the Development Team, implement data management and protocols for FWA donor and member data integrity, with attention to donor privacy and rights
  • Use constituent information for prospect development and implement strategy for donor cultivation
  • Other duties as assigned as per the Organization’s needs

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years experience in fundraising, experience with major gifts and capital campaigns an asset
  • CFRE or other fundraising designation is considered an asset
  • A strong writer, candidate has excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Excel
  • Experience with fundraising data management software, Salesforce experience would be considered an asset
  • Passionate about environmental issues, sustainability and social enterprise
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, strong ability to multitask
  • Able to work within a team while also comfortable taking initiative and moving projects forward with minimal supervision
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check required
