Overview


The Inn at the Quay Hotel located in New Westminster is seeking a highly resourceful and skilled Maintenance Coordinator to be the driving force behind the daily upkeep and operational excellence of our property. This essential, hands-on role reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of all hotel spaces--from guest rooms to public areas. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong background in general facilities maintenance, prepared to work diligently across all areas of the hotel to ensure a flawless guest and employee experience. This is a unionized role.

Responsibilities



Facilities Upkeep: Proactively patrol the entire hotel property, including the perimeter, interior spaces, and guest rooms, to identify and address all necessary repairs and maintenance issues before they impact operations or guest comfort. Minor Systems Repair: Conduct minor repairs and adjustments on building systems, including basic plumbing (e.g., unclogging drains, fixing leaks), minor electrical (e.g., replacing light fixtures, switches, and sockets), and minor HVAC components (e.g., changing filters, assisting with mounting units). Appliance & Furniture Care: Troubleshoot, repair, or replace various hotel appliances (refrigerators, microwaves, PTAC units) and perform minor carpentry work on furniture, doors, and fixtures (e.g., fixing hinges, replacing locks, patching drywall). Guest Room Technology: Respond to guest room issues promptly, including diagnosing and replacing damaged televisions and ensuring all room hardware and technology are fully functional. General Maintenance: Perform general repair and installation duties such as touch-up painting, minor tiling, grouting, and hanging items (mirrors, artwork) to maintain the hotel's aesthetic standards. Hot Tub/Pool Maintenance (where applicable): Assist with routine upkeep and preventative maintenance of the hot tub or spa facilities, which may include checking chemical levels, cleaning filters, and basic system checks. Work Order Management: Efficiently respond to and complete maintenance work orders generated by staff and guests, logging time and actions taken using the work order system. Parts & Inventory: Manage and organize the maintenance storage areas. Monitor and control inventory of essential parts and supplies (e.g., light bulbs, filters, cords, tools, spare parts) and inform Supervisor when inventory levels are low for timely restocking. Project Assistance: Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with larger projects, renovations, and the disposal of old equipment and furniture. Contractor Liaison: Assist the Supervisor in coordinating access and providing information to licensed outside contractors (e.g., certified electricians, plumbers, elevator technicians) for specialized repairs. Preventative Maintenance (PM): Execute scheduled Preventative Maintenance programs on equipment and systems to maximize longevity and minimize emergency repairs. Safety Checks: Conduct routine checks and maintain records for fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, and building systems to ensure full compliance with all health, safety, and security regulations.

Requirements



A minimum of 2 years of practical experience in general building maintenance, facilities upkeep, or a similar role, with direct experience in a hotel or multi-unit residential environment strongly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and appliance repair. Knowledge of HVAC/PTAC units is a strong asset. Keen observational skills to spot maintenance needs, paired with precision in repair and finishing work. Ability to work on your feet for extended periods of time, including frequently walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and working at heights on ladders. Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and heavier items with assistance. Strong ability to communicate professionally and courteously with guests, co-workers, and supervisors. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include on-call rotations, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Proficient in English, both written and verbal communication skills are essential.
