As a Maintenance Worker you will be a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in keeping facilities clean, safe, and running smoothly. You will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep and safety of our Women's shelter buildings and grounds. The Maintenance Worker ensures that the shelter's facilities and grounds are well-maintained, clean, and in good working order. You'll perform a variety of janitorial, landscaping, repair, and maintenance tasks, ranging from routine upkeep to special projects that contribute to the comfort and safety of staff, residents, and visitors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform minor building repairs (e.g., patching walls, fixing locks, adjusting doors)
Clean and sanitize shelter facilities and maintain grounds
Complete basic plumbing and electrical tasks such as replacing lightbulbs or unclogging drains
Paint interior and exterior surfaces as needed
Maintain and report on inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment
Assemble/move furniture and help with shelter setup (tables, bulletin boards, etc.)
Transport food, supplies, and materials to/from the shelter as required
Identify and report repair or safety concerns to the Executive Director
Support special projects or seasonal tasks (e.g., snow shoveling, landscaping)
Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
High school diploma or GED, with at least 1 year of maintenance or custodial experience
Working knowledge of basic tools, equipment, and maintenance practices
Understanding of safe cleaning, sanitation, and landscaping methods
Ability to identify and report potential hazards
Strong attention to detail and a proactive work ethic
Valid driver's license
Able to perform physical tasks (lifting, bending, standing, etc.)
Current satisfactory criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector), Child Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact Check (or willingness to obtain)
ASSETS
Familiarity with repair of public or residential buildings
Knowledge of shelter or community-based facilities
Experience with basic inventory tracking and equipment upkeep
